Blogs for Borders IS NO LONGER UPDATED! America is awakened to the insane policies of illegal immigration, amnesty, unsecure borders opposed by bloggers dedicated to American sovereignty. -- Original Feed!
by Jim Kouri: Senator John McCain, the so-called GOP maverick, is fighting for his political life in Arizona against former congressman and talk show host J.D. Hayworth. While most pundits believe his race may be close but he'll pull out a win, some believe it's time for McCain to retire. . . .
United States Border Patrol agents are not happy with Senator John McCain (R-AZ) since he voted for the Amnesty Bill (S. 2611). And they're not being quiet about their collective anger over the senator's actions and remarks.
According to members of the agents' union local 2544, Senator McCain has never been a friend to rank-and-file Border Patrol agents. Local 2544 represents US Border Patrol agents in Arizona, McCain's home state.
"He routinely ignores correspondence from Border Patrol agents and often gives the impression that he is just too big and too important to deal with us," they said.
"He attempts to undermine our mission at every turn and actively supports the criminals who violate our laws. He always trys to downplay the fact that illegal aliens knowingly and willingly violate our laws, and he is a close ally on immigration matters with Senator Ted Kennedy, who we believe is the biggest disgrace of all time in the United States Senate." . . . “The Declaration Alliance received the news yesterday of the closing of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Inc. corporate entity.
“Declaration Alliance will continue with its long-time commitment to border security and anti-illegal immigration activism projects in much the same fashion as it has for years. That commitment has included providing funds, communications and logistical support for responsibly organized citizen rallies, educational functions, public advocacy and the famed border watches of the sterling Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Incorporated volunteers. With some necessary structural changes, we at Declaration Alliance will do all we can to continue to keep Minutemen empowered.
"We are saddened by the decision of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Incorporated Board to terminate their corporate entity out of concern for their volunteers' safety and accelerating liability threats, but we certainly understand it. The cynical failure of the federal government to secure our southern border has made the US-Mexico borderline a virtual war zone, and the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Inc.'s organized and public patrols are increasingly a target of the violent cartels Minuteman border watches disrupt.
“Unfortunately, citizen activism is experiencing some increase of pressure by undesirable elements seeking to subvert the Minuteman movement's outstanding track record of safety in the field. However, neither enemies to America, nor outsiders whose beliefs are inimical to the patriotic mission and principles of the national Minuteman movement, will succeed in preventing Declaration Alliance and our thousands of supporters across America from pursuing effective activism to address our border crisis.
"Declaration Alliance will continue with all the assistance and support to citizen vigilance on these vital issues we can muster. The www.MinutemanHQ.com website serving the broader Minuteman movement, and other efforts we are associated with in this fight will remain in full swing. The Declaration Alliance's MCDC Project and MCDC Political Action Committee are on-going. A new Amnesty legislative battle is coming before the nation from an out-of-control Congress, and experienced Minutemen across America will meet that challenge. Declaration Alliance will be standing with them. Our nation’s future is at stake.
“We are also pleased to announce that Chris Simcox, who five years ago was a founder of the Minuteman movement to do the job our government failed to do -- secure our borders -- will be rejoining us as honorary chairman and policy strategist. Chris’s continued commitment to the MCDC Project and Declaration Alliance is a strong signal countering those who welcome a weakened America that the movement to secure our borders, halt amnesty and stop the illegal alien invasion will continue, with a renewed and urgent emphasis on political action.
“With the Obama Administration pushing ‘a path to citizenship’ for illegal aliens, Chris’s participation is a sign that Obama, John McCain and the rest of the open-borders crowd that supports amnesty will continue to face an organized force of American citizens determined to save our nation.
“We commend all the leaders and volunteers of Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Incorporated for their sacrificial service to American liberty, and encourage them to stay in the fight and stand with us at www.MinutemanHQ.com.

The Washington Times is reporting that Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC)is closing. In fact this is MCDC, Inc which is closing, not necessarily the website promoted by the Declaration Alliance. The below post will address the information related to the reported closing of MCDC. We will th♠en post a response by the Declaration Alliance in another post. by Ben Conery and Jerry Seper, The Washington Times:
The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, which posted hundreds of civilian volunteers along the U.S.-Mexico border over the past five years, has disbanded, citing what it called "rising aggression" in the country and decisions by lawmakers in Washington who have "pushed amnesty down our throats."
. . . "We have to protect the ranchers as well as the volunteers," Ms. Mercer said, noting the killing on Saturday of Robert Krentz, a prominent Douglas, Ariz., rancher who was shot along with his dog on his ranch by a suspected illegal immigrant who fled into Mexico and remains a fugitive.
Born in April 2005, the MCDC — originally known as the Minuteman Project — called for the U.S. military to be assigned to protect the southwestern border from terrorists, illegal immigrants and drug smugglers; sought increased manpower for the U.S. Border Patrol; and opposed the granting of amnesty to the millions of illegals who already have entered the country.
The MCDC vowed to fight a proposal by President Obama to try to get a bipartisan immigration bill passed this year that would establish a path to legal status for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country. At one point, the organization had a roster of about 12,000 members. . . .
The MCDC announcement that it was dissolving came as a surprise to many in the movement, particularly in light of pronouncements by Ms. Mercer earlier this month that the organization was looking for more volunteers this year to show up on the border "locked and loaded."
"This muster will be completely different. … We return to the border locked, loaded and ready to stop each and every individual we encounter along the frontier that is now more dangerous than the frontier of Afghanistan," she said in a March 16 posting on the MCDC Web site. "This operation will not be for the faint of heart."
. . . "From the surveillance videos we have gathered in the field over the past six months, it is more than evident the violators of our borders seem to have been given carte blanche permission to willfully violate our public safety," the message said.
She also said that the MCDC volunteers would be returning to the border to tell Mr. Obama that his immigration policy is wrong and to send a message to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano that she is "an unqualified buffoon who risks the lives of American citizens every day she is the head of DHS." . . .
On Monday, Ms. Mercer acknowledged that the response she had received to the March 16 Web site call prompted the decision to dissolve the MCDC. She said many people who had not answered e-mails for years wanted to come on board because of the "locked and loaded" edict. Even though she said the organization's 2010 standard operating procedures were legal, she was concerned that "one bad apple" could destroy everything the organization has worked to achieve along the border over the past several years. Since its founding in April 2005, there has not been an incident along the border involving the MCDC volunteers and illegal immigrants.
Although the responses were overwhelmingly positive, she said, it was obvious that "many had decided to return to the border who had tired of the sometimes futile watch-and-observe methods. It showed me that people are not willing to be silenced anymore; it also showed me that people will be less likely to follow the rules of engagement in a desperate attempt to stop the criminals who violate our borders every day. "That is not what we want, and we cannot take the responsibility for this," she said. . . .
Ms. Mercer, . . . said that although MCDC was dissolving, the organization's chapters and various offshoot groups would continue to organize border watches. She blamed Republican lawmakers such as Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina for offering to work with Mr. Obama on immigration policy and weakening border controls. . . . [Full Story]
It definitely appears there is more to this story. After Ms. Mercer made statements that she could not back-up or support, she appears to have been forced by the board to close MCDC, Inc. to protect the board members. This aspect of the equation regarding MCDC is definitively not explained by her statements. Tags:amnesty, illegal aliens, MCDC, Minuteman Civil Defense Corps To share the post, click on "Post Link." Flags and Disrespect by Illegals at March on America
Youth for Western Civilization Video: Illegal immigrants marched against America on Sunday, March 21. They were told not to bring anything but American flags, as organizers were eager to promote the lie that they cared about this country. However, we saw their true colors.

SEIU Showed Itself a Pro At Sunday March in Silencing Debate
By Roy Beck, Founder & CEO of NumbersUSA: The Battle of the Mimes looks pretty silly in many ways. But beneath the makeup and balloons, the SEIU's "silencing campaign" on Sunday showed a lot about the ability and willingness of one of the biggest money/muscle partners of the pro-amnesty forces to use well-orchestrated intimidation to keep debate from happening.
Perhaps surprising was that the main intent was not so much to silence me but to silence their pro-amnesty marchers. Once the Park Police finally required that the marchers be given the right to speak to us, we could see why SEIU didn't want them to be heard. Pretty radical stuff.
The young woman/mime who brought the false charges against my body guard now acknowledges in an on-line audio interview that she was part of an elaborate effort to keep any conversation from happening.
And that pretty much describes the pro-amnesty philosophy which generally considers name-calling to be the highest form of intellectual activity on the immigration issue -- even in the mainstream large national entities such as the Huffington Post, Center for American Progress and the National Council of La Raza.
This non-stop slandering, libeling, intimidating presence by the open-borders groups has become common nearly every place NumbersUSA appears now. The open-borders groups have an incredible fear of NumbersUSA's grassroots mobilizing influence. They are expending large sums of foundation money that is targeted specifically at attacking us and some of our allies.
But the difference when the open-borders agitators show up at events where I have been invited to speak is that I give them the floor or microphone and let them say their piece and ask their questions (make their accusations).
OUR PRESENCE WAS ALWAYS QUIET, POLITE AND UNOBTRUSIVE -- SEIU WANTED A COMMOTION
On Sunday, however, they were not so gracious when I showed up at their party on the National Mall. Like a good guest, I had let the march organizers know in advance that I would be visiting. I also announced through various news media that I was discouraging anti-amnesty enthusiasts from doing any kind of counter-protest on the Mall because I felt the pro-amnesty forces should get their very expensive day of free speech without disruptions.
Hilarious to anybody who has ever known me or the NumbersUSA style -- or who watches even the videos taken by the pro-amnesty folks and posted on the pro-amnesty blogs -- the claim is that the SEIU and Center for New Community heard I was coming and had to organize to prevent me from physically threatening the marchers and starting fights!
I think you got the picture. Into a field of 60,000 to 100,000 pro-amnesty marchers -- with no counter-protestors in sight anywhere -- I walked with six of my colleagues. And the SEIU felt threatened. However, unlike when they attend my events, I had announced widely beforehand that we had no intention of disrupting anything and were just going to interview marchers willing to be interviewed.
But the SEIU plan was to create incredible commotion every place I went -- and then, of course, blame us for the commotion. As you can see from the videos, my conversations with marchers in all but one case had the audible level of a pin drop at that event.
SEIU DROWNS OUT PRAYERS AND PREACHERS
The SEIU and Center for New Community theatre was so intent on trying to provoke an outbreak that it succeeded in drowning out most of the homilies and prayers during the interfaith religious service that led off the event.
I was standing perhaps 50 feet from the clerics just trying to listen to the worship service. This so enraged the march organizers that they incited scores of people around me to start explosive chants to accompany their whistle blowing so that virtually nobody in the front section could hear anything being said during the prayers right there in front of us.
But as much as the SEIU didn't want me to hear the religious leaders, it REALLY didn't want me to hear voices from the overwhelmingly Latino crowd. As you saw in our live video feeds on Sunday and will see in short videos we will be posting, the SEIU and Center for New Community "silencers" totally bewildered one Latino marcher after another who sought to talk to us but were shouted and whistled down by the Silencers.
MOST MARCHERS WERE QUITE HONEST ABOUT THEIR TRULY OPEN-BORDERS PREFERENCES
SIEU responded with lawyers and thugs to try to stop us from talking with the marchers. Why? Because they knew what we were going to find -- a truly open-borders philosophy that is repugnant to the vast majority of the American voters and a philosophy that is vehemently denied by the politicians pushing for more and more foreign workers in our economy.
The Silencers succeeded in keeping us from hearing that message until they incited so much potential violence against us that the Park Police were forced to move us out of the area for our protection.
Once across the street, the police ordered the mimes and their handlers to cease their intimidating, silencing tactics. Everywhere we had gone earlier in the day, the SEIU handlers stopped each person who started to talk to us and commanded them not to speak to us. When various of these Latino marchers persisted in talking to us, the SEIU Silencers (who all seemed to be White, interestingly) would incite the crowd to loud chants to drown out any conversation, and the balloon ladies would insert their white-gloved hands, white-coated mugs and omnipresent balloons into the faces of the Latino marchers. All a strange sight. But we ARE talking about mimes.
Well, once the police ordered a stop to the SEIU intimidation of the marchers, we were inundated by people wanting to talk to us and debate us. And then, we discovered that the predominant sentiment was that it is wrong for the United States to have borders.
It is wrong for the United States to limit the ability of anybody in the world from coming here to take a job. And it would be wrong for the government to give priority to the 25 million unemployed and forced-part-time American workers (including immigrants already here legally) over people here illegally.
PARK POLICE MOVED US FROM RALLY AREA BECAUSE OF THREATS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST US
When I was first approached by the Police to leave the march area and move across the street into a virtually empty area that had been set up for counter-protestors who never showed up, I argued that I had done nothing to lose my free assembly rights to walk around the staging area. But Rosemary Jenks, our director of government relations and a lawyer, quickly learned from the police that the mimes brigade and their SEIU handlers had so stirred many of the marchers to a mob-like hysteria about our presence that the police had heard direct threats of violence against us and were intent on protecting our safety.
By the way, some observers have wondered if there wasn't a bit of falsely yelling "fire" in a crowded theater throughout the event. When we were in the middle of the crowd (which appeared to be about 90% Latino), people around began directing the crowd's attention to us and saying that "they hate Latinos" and "they are white supremacists."
The mimes themselves had been trained well in the art of disruptiveness to incite some kind of physical response back at them. This tactic has some parallel with torture techniques that don't leave marks on the body. If you read through the open-borders blog sites, you will see some pretty clever writing ridiculing the idea that some small white women in greasepaint and surrounded by balloons could be anything but annoying. I be mistaken but I think some of the blogs are challenging my manhood that I could possibly have been intimidated by these little women. But I will tell you that hours of having whistles (I don't care what shape or quality) in your ears is more than disorienting and is a great way to push a person to finally slug the whistler. That certainly was what they had hoped.
Although we were plenty happy to pop balloons that were constantly shoved into our faces and into the camera lens, we did not give the angry and physical response that the march organizers had hoped to provoke. So, racial taunts were next used. Two of our friends who came to the march to assist me in case we encountered some lone wolf problem marcher were Black (well, one is actually Latino, Black and American Indian -- but the Silencers crowd all assumed he was just Black). The people around the mime ladies shouted at them for being Black. Our Black colleagues were accused of being my slaves, of assisting the KKK, and other epithets to try to rattle them.
The last thing that the Silencers -- or apparently this giant SEIU union -- seemed to care about are the unemployed. The very mention of the unemployed sent people into a rage. Certainly a common theme that we found among the marchers was that unemployed Americans just don't have a good enough work ethic to deserve the jobs -- or that the American way is that U.S. citizens shouldn't have to do lower-skilled labor, that it is beneath them. And apparently any American who still seeks lower-skilled jobs is betraying the American dream.
A FINAL EFFORT AT SILENCING WITH AN ASSAULT CHARGE
When the SEIU efforts at Silencing finally failed and the police protected our right of free listening, the Silencers had one last trick in their bag. A mime filed a charge against one of my guards alleging an assault that had supposedly occurred several hours earlier. Strange how that timing worked out, eh?
On her on-line audio tape, she claims the presence of a knife, a complete fabrication. The poor park police had no choice but follow procedures, including a pat-down for the non-existent knife. The false charge trick was somewhat effective in that it tied up a lot of videotape from being webcast for some time.
But once NumbersUSA was actually allowed to listen in on the opinions of marchers and for us to be the ears for average Americans deeply concerned about the unemployed of our communities, all the efforts at Silencing had really only succeeded in revealing a very ugly side to the amnesty movement.
In the end, we realized that the Silencing was not aimed at keeping us quiet but at keeping the SEIU's pro-amnesty colleagues -- especially their own union members, I suspect -- quiet. CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) – Elodia Ortiz drops her children at school in the morning, picks them up in the afternoon and makes an occasional trip to the supermarket. Anything else, she says, is too dangerous. Parents in Ciudad Juarez, just across the border from El Paso, Texas, are afraid to venture into the streets amid a turf war between two powerful drug cartels that has left more than 4,500 people dead during the past two years. Their fears spiked last weekend when hit men attacked two white SUVs leaving a birthday party, killing parents from two U.S. Consulate families in front of their screaming children. The violence has risen to such levels in Ciudad Juarez that everyone feels at risk in the city of 1.3 million, where innocent people have been increasingly caught in the crossfire. Hit men have gone to wrong addresses or shot indiscriminately into homes, mowing down not only the targeted people but anyone nearby.Full Story Here: Fear grips Mexican border families amid violence
I’ve been taken to task by those believe themselves to be erudite conservatives. They attack me for my views on ILLEGALS, their presence in this nation and how I believe they need to be dealt with.
I have made no secret of the fact that I believe our southern border should be manned by the National Guard. I also believe that the National Guard should be fully armed and ready for any combat operation necessary to repel these invaders, by ANY means.
I have been called racist, heartless, cruel, mean, ignorant and red neck. A plethora of names have been tossed and accusations have been made against me and this blog simply because I STILL stand for America 1st and the sovereignty of our borders.
Well, all I can say regarding that is this, if I am stirring up these self described conservatives, if my views on what needs to be done to protect this nation is angering them, then I must be doing something RIGHT!
Mothers have driven into daytime shootouts, bending over their children to protect them. Toddlers have been fatally pierced by bullets while playing on the swings at city playgrounds. Waitresses have been slain for having the misfortune of serving marked men. “We’re shut in our house,” said Ortiz, a mother of five, as she stood outside Vicente Guerrero elementary school, her 7-year-old daughter clinging to her as she shyly eyed other students walking by. “We have to get to school, we have to work. But we’re afraid when we leave.”
These people are being forced to lead miserable lives. I am truly sorry for their plight. I mean that in all sincerity. But I am not so sympathetic to their cause that I want their violence and their lifestyle to spill over into the United States, any more than it already has. I wish their lives were different. I wish their lives were better, but they are suffering the result of a totally corrupt, socialist government. A government that has left their police and military powerless to do anything to rectify their situation due to massive internal corruption.
Take a very close look at the current situation in Mexico folks. That is us in a very short time if this socialist demagog that goes by the name of Barack Hussein Obama is allowed to continue.
Border security is a joke. It was a joke under Bush 43, Clinton, Bush 41 and every other U.S. president in recent American history. Border security is nothing more than a few Border Patrol agents, out numbered and out gunned, toiling in the night, trying to round up vast numbers of ILLEGALS, not to mention the drug runners and potential terrorists that cross into the USA on a daily basis.
So, the fence isn’t complete, what is there isn’t effective and the invasion continues. You just KNOW that it’s got to be a government project.
In early trials, technical problems and other snafus led to media reports that DHS and the Boeing Co., which held contracts to build two sections of the high-tech fence, might mothball the project. Problems included software glitches, camera images affected by wind and rain, and radar that had trouble distinguishing sagebrush from camping migrants or animals.
I am going to repeat this again, BOOTS ON THE GROUND!Fully armed Troops, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, M1A1/M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks, AH-64 Apaches, 240-Bravo machine guns, M-249 Squad Automatic Weapons (SAW), land mines, dogs, Night Vision Glasses (NVGs) and a GREEN LIGHT to shoot anything crossing OUR border at anything other than a LEGAL border crossing!
If that makes me a mean, racist, bog dwelling red neck as a certain faux Conservative idiot in Long Beach has claimed, and as other bleeding heart libbers have claimed, then so be it, I am a racist, heartless, cruel, mean, ignorant red neck and by God I wear those names proudly!
There ya go, a solid admission, now you idiots can stop making veiled comments and accusations, just tell em I said it, I admit it, I really AM all of those things. The things I do to make life easier for the moonbats among us. Tags:border, border control, Department of Homeland Security, Mexico, TexasFredTo share the post, click on "Post Link." Janet Napolitano halts funding for virtual border fence
The virtual border fence was supposed to revolutionize US-Mexico border security. But delays and glitches led Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to freeze its funding Wednesday. By Daniel B. Wood: n May 2006, President George W. Bush touted the SBInet project as “the most technologically advanced border security initiative in American history.” The proposed "virtual border fence" along the US-Mexican border was to be a string of towers that would use cameras, radar, and ground sensors to see who was coming across in real time.
Now the project, which spent $2.4 billion between 2005 and 2009, has hit so many snags that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is freezing its funding.
“Not only do we have an obligation to secure our borders, we have a responsibility to do so in the most cost-effective way possible,” wrote DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano in a press release Tuesday. “The system of sensors and cameras along the Southwest border known as SBInet has been plagued with cost overruns and missed deadlines.” . . .
Now – reportedly two days before the release of a GAO report that was said to criticize the project – Ms. Napolitano says that DHS will shift the funding. It will redeploy $50 million of Recovery Act funding originally allocated to "commercially available security technology along the Southwest border, including mobile surveillance, thermal imaging devices, ultra-light detection, backscatter units, mobile radios, cameras ,and laptops for pursuit vehicles, and remote video surveillance system enhancements,” Napolitano’s statement said. . . .
Other experts say that Napolitano’s actions are related to recent incidents at the border. "Despite evidence of funding constraints at the DHS, Napolitano's actions signal a more deliberate effort by the agency to crack down on illegal immigration at the US-Mexican border in the wake of the shootings that took place in Ciudad Juarez on Saturday, leaving three individuals with ties to the US consulate dead,” says Catherine Wilson, an assistant professor of political science at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, who studies immigration.
On Wednesday, the State Department issued an advisory for US citizens traveling in Tijuana, Nogales, Ciudad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey, and Matamoros, and has authorized the departure of family members of US government personnel in these areas, she notes.
The main question the public should be asking about a virtual border fence is whether the DHS is fully aware of the long-term performance of the security technologies involved, Dr. Wilson and others say. “Will they, in fact, be more cost-effective than those technologies used in the past?" she asks. "Is this a good use of Recovery Act funding?" Tags:border, border security, Janet Napolitano, virtual fenceTo share the post, click on "Post Link." Please mention / link to Blogs for Borders. Thanks!
In 2007 while speaking to the radical La Raza organization, Graham said he was going to tell the “bigots” who opposed amnesty to “shut up.”
RINO Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) met with White House officials this week to discuss amnesty. The LA Times reported:
Despite steep odds, the White House has discussed prospects for reviving a major overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws, a commitment that President Obama has postponed once already. Obama took up the issue privately with his staff Monday in a bid to advance a bill through Congress before lawmakers become too distracted by approaching midterm elections.
In the session, Obama and members of his Domestic Policy Council outlined ways to resuscitate the effort in a White House meeting with two senators — Democrat Charles E. Schumer of New York and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina – who have spent months trying to craft a bill. According to a person familiar with the meeting, the White House may ask Schumer and Graham to at least produce a blueprint that could be turned into legislative language.
The basis of a bill would include a path toward citizenship for the 10.8 million people living in the U.S. illegally. Citizenship would not be granted lightly, the White House said. Undocumented workers would need to register, pay taxes and pay a penalty for violating the law. Failure to comply might result in deportation. Nick Shapiro, a White House spokesman, said the president’s support for an immigration bill, which would also include improved border security, was “unwavering.”

AR Congressional Candidate's 3-Phase Plan for Border Security
On Monday, Arkansas GOP Congressional candidate Rick Crawford outlined his 3-phase plan for US border security. Crawford is a Northeast Arkansas small businessman and a veteran of the US Army, not a Washington politician or bureaucrat. Our professional politicians and bureaucrats for years have refused to make the hard decisions required to secure our southern borders.
Crawford calls the porous southern border our "most exploited border" and a "national security threat." His 3-phase plan includes,
Phase 1:Build a wall.
"Not hang a piece of corrugated tin, not a virtual wall for aesthetics" says Crawford, but a defensible wall with 8-10 lawful points of entry.
Phase 2:Document the undocumented.
Allow a six to nine month period to allow any undocumented worker or illegal immigrant to return to one of the secure points of entry and register. At this point they'll be "on the grid," said Crawford. "They don't get a driver's license, they don't get a benefit card," he continued.
Phase 3:Active enforcement.
Following phase 2, there will be a determined effort to find those who have not registered. It will be assumed at this point that any undocumented alien is in the country for illicit purposes and law enforcement will be empowered to "take appropriate action."
Perhaps electing real people who are accustomed to making hard decisions in the real world is the first step needed to get a real solution to our illegal immigration problem.

by Doug Patton, GOPUSA: Most Americans realize that our federal government's deliberate refusal to control the influx of illegal aliens, primarily from Mexico, has had a deleterious effect on our nation's economy. Scores of California hospitals have had to close their doors because of a tsunami of illegals seeking "free" health care -- and receiving it. Schools across the country are being forced to deal with the children of those here illegally, with many states now fighting over whether to offer these children in-state tuition to attend state colleges and universities.
Two of the largest business associations in the country are at odds over this issue. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which sees cheap, illegal labor as a boon for big business, favors a program that keeps our southern border open. But the National Federation of Independent Business, which represents small business owners, says its members frequently see illegals as competition with legitimate enterprise.
We even see sharp divisions in our politics over this issue, as challengers such as former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth take on former Republican presidential candidate John McCain in that state's primary election this year for the GOP nomination for McCain's Senate seat. But these are only the most obvious consequences of a misguided policy that has overburdened the most prosperous society on earth, and now the corrosive effects of not enforcing our immigration laws is taking a toll on our body politic at a whole new level.
In my home state of Nebraska, Republican Gov. Dave Heineman currently enjoys sky-high approval ratings from constituents, thanks in large part to his stubborn resistance to tax increases, his principled opposition to Democrat Sen. Ben Nelson's "Cornhusker Kickback," and his veto of a bill that would have provided in-state college tuition for the children of illegals -- a stand that helped him beat back a 2006 primary challenge from former congressman and Nebraska football deity Tom Osborne. Now Heineman has taken another courageous position on behalf of taxpayers by threatening to veto a bill in the Legislature that would provide state-funded prenatal care for illegal immigrants.
Unfortunately, Nebraska's Catholic Bishops have come out in favor of the legislation, thereby causing a powerful, Catholic-dominated pro-life group, Nebraska Right-to-Life, to issue an ultimatum: candidates opposing the bill will not receive their endorsement in the upcoming fall election campaign. "We want to assure that innocent, unborn children will receive prenatal services," says Brenda Eller, president of the group. The group's board voted unanimously to support the bill. "This is the right thing to do from a pro-life position, regardless of the immigration status," Eller declares.
But Gov. Heineman is standing firm. "After a careful and thoughtful review of the various aspects of this issue, we are opposed to illegal immigrants receiving taxpayer-funded benefits," the governor said in a letter read at a public hearing on the prenatal care plan. This once again stands him in good stead with Nebraskans. "The idea that society is responsible for people who are breaking the law is completely ridiculous and completely false," says Dimitri Krynsky, who emigrated legally from Czechoslovakia thirty years ago. "What the state should do is make sure these people do not find work here, do not find apartments here," he says. "Nebraska should create an environment that will send them home."
Krynsky speaks for the overwhelming majority of Nebraskans, including the many legal immigrants who resent the fact that illegals are being granted all the rights of citizenship without having complied with the law. Since immigration is a federal issue, and it has become obvious that bureaucrats at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have no intention of enforcing the law, state officials have two choices. They can capitulate to the pro-illegal cause or defend the law. Gov. Heineman is one leader who has chosen to do the latter. ----- Doug Patton is a former speechwriter and public policy advisor who now works as a freelance writer. Where is the Fence: No finish in sight for 'virtual' border fence
Jeffrey Anderson at The Washington Times has a detailed report, what follows is really a brief extract: A multibillion-dollar "virtual fence" along the southwestern border promised for completion in 2009 to protect the U.S. from terrorists, violent drug smugglers and a flood of illegal immigrants is a long way from becoming a reality, with government officials unable to say when, how or whether it will ever be completed.
More than three years after launching a major border security initiative and forking over more than $1 billion to the Boeing Co., the project's major contractor, Homeland Security Department officials are re-evaluating the high-tech component of the plan in the wake of a series of critical Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports warning lawmakers that the expensive undertaking is deeply flawed.
The program now places the Obama administration in a quandary, foretold by lawmakers who witnessed Boeing and Homeland Security publicly mischaracterize the nature of the contract, according to GAO, after government officials, watchdogs and contractors privately discovered that it was destined to fail. . . .
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was before Congress last week defending a 3 percent cut to the CBP budget, a proposal that has concerned Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar, now serving as acting CBP deputy commissioner. In a Dec. 18 confidential memo to his sector chiefs, a copy of which was obtained by The Times, he said, "As you know, we have been going through some painful budget exercises and … unfortunately it is going to get more painful."
The chief said the Border Patrol needed to cut new expenditures below commitments it made for the fiscal 2009 budget, adding that while "significant cuts" already had been made, additional reductions would be necessary. He directed the sector chiefs to do more with less.
Chief Aguilar also said he "had to shut down" some pending and ongoing programs involving the Border Patrol's Enforcement and Information Technology (EIT) Division, which the agency has described as a key component in its ability to secure U.S. borders. . . .
