What Obama Seemed to Say About Immigration in the State of the Union

by Roy Beck: Pres. Obama's obtuse sentence on immigration in his address to the nation revealed a great fear of how the American people would react if he directly called for more foreign workers and for permanent jobs for the estimated 8 million illegal foreign workers.
He seemed to be trying to signal to the supporters of amnesty and "comprehensive immigration reform" that he was still behind them but in words that the voters watching on TV wouldn't understand:

We should continue to work at fixing our broken immigration system to secure our borders and enforce our laws and ensure that everyone who plays by  rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nation. -- Pres. Obama, State of the Union Address

Reading those words literally, I would have to say I agree. The people who have "played by the rules" are the legal immigrants who are already here.  I and NumbersUSA wholeheartedly want all of them to become fully integrated into our society, contributing to our economy and enriching our nation.

Of course, we know that Mr. Obama was actually talking about the foreign workers who have played by the rules . . . except for the teeny tiny infraction of violating their visas or entering the country illegally or taking a job and government benefits without federal authorization. The President has repeatedly and within the last month asserted that unauthorized aliens in this country should get to keep their jobs and become U.S. citizens.

But the President couldn't bring himself to utter the words "comprehensive immigration reform" or "path to citizenship" or "legalization" or "more immigration" in his State of the Union Address. And that is surely a sign of some good news for the 23 million U-6 unemployed Americans who want a job but cannot find full-time work.

If the President really believed that putting Americans back to work were an emergency that called for tough measures, he would have announced a suspension of most new immigration of foreign workers and mandated E-Verify verification to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs. But at least it sounded like the American voters have persuaded the White House that "comprehensive immigration reform" is far more controversial than all the items he was happy to mention directly in his address.

And for that, we can thank the millions of you Americans who have contacted the White House in the last year to express your opposition to "comprehensive immigration reform."

Symbolism That Matters -- Signing the Chaffetz/Kratovil Anti-Amnesty Resolution

Yes, it is only a "sense of Congress" resolution. It is non-binding. It does not fix any problems. But it does provide us an opportunity to get Members of Congress on record without having a vote on an amnesty bill.

Here is why that is important. Because NumbersUSA activists and others have been so successful in pressuring Congress the last two years, we have been spared the trauma of having an amnesty bill on the floor of the Senate or House for a vote. But that means we have no record of where Senators stand on amnesty since 2007 and for House Members since 2005, unless they have co-sponsored a pro-amnesty bill. As Members of Congress face challenges in their Party's primaries this spring and summer and then from the other Party in the fall, voters need to know precisely where the incumbents stand on amnesty.

Until today, we couldn't really provide a good read on most Members. Now, however, the anti-amnesty resolution tells us which Members will publicly oppose all kinds of amnesty, plus insist on attrition through enforcement to move illegal foreign workers out of their jobs.

Almost everybody will say they oppose "amnesty." Even most of the Members who are co-sponsors of Rep. Gutierrez' (D-Illinois) pro-amnesty bill tell the public that they oppose amnesty. But what is their definition?

The Chaffetz/Kratovil bill takes away the wiggle room. First, it says Congress should not "legalize, grant amnesty for, or confere any other legal status condoning the otherwise unlawful entry or presence in the United States of any individual." And then to make it even more clear what the signer thinks should happen to illegal aliens, it calls for mandatory use of E-Verify by every employer for every employee so that none of the illegal aliens can keep their jobs and support themselves in this country.

Friends, this resolution is a promise with teeth. We will soon find out which Members of Congress were faking it the last few years in promising us that they wouldn't vote for an amnesty.

New Amnesty Bill referred to as: “IMMIGRATION REFORM!”

Between now an the November Mid-term election Americans can prepare for yet another attempt by the democrats to shove through the Congress an Amnesty for Illegal Aliens bill. Oh, it won’t be called that, of course, but in essence, that will be exactly the intent of the bill. Look for a bill with the keywords “Immigration Reform” in it.

The fact is, the Dems want the votes of the illegal aliens and the Republicans want the cheap labor. That be over simplification, but it sure does get at the truth of the matter.

Back last summer we warned this would happen. Now, I’m just an Ole Country Boy, down here in the swamps of North Carolina, and I saw it coming, even then. You see, the Obama Regime and the socialist Congress have been using the old magician’s trick of misdirection to attempt to move unsavory legislation through the congress and signed into law before you and I figure out what hit us. At least SOME Americans have awakened to their underhanded methods are crying “foul!” I’m just one of them.  Read the whole post here.

I am so sick of people sneaking into this country and expecting us to be all lovey dovey towards them. I am beyond disgusted by the people who are supposedly committed to protect the CITIZENS of this country from harm are the very ones who would see harm done. I don’t give a flying flip what your country of origin might be, Mexico, Ireland, China….whatever. If you can’t come in through the front door, LEGALLY, get your sorry ass out of my country! I am revolted by an administration who would target an elected law enforcement officer who stands by his oath.

Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, and start screaming “racist”, “bigot”, etc., think about this….it’s not only people “just looking for a better life” who are sneaking in through the sieve that are our borders. It’s also potential terrorists who would blow your children into so many pieces, you’d have to use a mop to clean them up, and slit your throat not thinking twice. It’s drug dealers who have been waging war against the innocents in Mexico, who kidnap and murder on a regular basis.

We are a land of laws. When the so called powers that be go out of their way to break our own laws, then it’s past time to replace them with those who take our Constitution seriously. Reagan was wrong to grant amnesty, and so is Obama!

New Jersey & Free Speech

The Oakland Journal: A New Jersey state judge, James Hurley, has made international news with his recent decision to shut down three websites dedicated to the debate on the H1-B visa situation in America. H1-B is a visa that allows companies in America to import workers from other countries to fill positions that cannot be filled by American workers. These jobs usually require a specialized skill, but the categories have become so all encompassing that to list them here would be impractical.

Many of the positions filled are in the technology industry, and increasingly the health industry, but all are normally considered higher paid positions. Critics of the program claim H-1B visas are used to bring in foreign workers and artificially keep wages lower. Claims of fraud were confirmed with a government report in 2008 that showed a 20 percent violation rate amongst employers exploiting the H-1B visa program.

The debate on the pros and cons of the H1-B visa program is ongoing in Congress as it decides whether to expand the program to allow for an additional 300,000 work visas. While part of a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would provide additional bureaucracy to assure compliance, congressional representatives are concerned with voter perception of allowing more workers into a country while unemployment steadily hovers at 10%. The alleged H1-B abuses by Apex Technology are aggravated by their promotion of off-shore outsourcing in which they promise ” …IT staff at a fraction of the cost of a US employee”.

The court decision by New Jersey’s James Hurley focused on Apex Technology which relies heavily on the H1-B program to import workers for placement in some of America’s largest corporations. Apex sued claiming the websites allowed defamatory posts to be published on: EndH1b.com and ItGrunt.com, and GuestWorkerFraud.com. Judge Hurley’s decision captured media attention because he chose to shut down entire websites rather than focus on the disputed claims. This has raised alarms of censorship and sets a precedent for websites such as Amazon.com, and numerous other websites hosting personal opinions, reviews and criticisms to be shut down. The action has labor rights activists, free speech activists, and even some beneficiaries of the H1-B visa program united in voicing opposition to the court decision. Many foreign workers hope for the opportunity to live and work in the United States, but they can often be subject to abuse in their places of employment. In what are sometimes described as H1-B “sweatshops”, workers can be dismissed with no reason and forced to leave the United State immediately. This, along with lower wages, are some of the problems faced by H1-B workers.

Free speech activists view the forced shutting down of the entire websites as a direct threat to the First Amendment, and a particular threat to the growth of online discussion groups and political debate. Labor activists claim abuses in the H1-B program are under reported, and while not addressing the veracity of the particular claims against Apex, they consider this over-reaching court decision a boon for companies seeking to skirt the laws.

The Born Again Americans: What do these photos have in common? The top photo depicts the absolutely out of control invasion of the Asian Carp, a predatory species that is threatening our Great Lakes and the $7,000,000,000.00 per year fishing and recreational industries in the Great Lakes... The second shows a couple of what are literally millions of "illegal aliens" preparing to enter this country through our southern border...
These two have more in common than first meets the eye... The invasion of the Asian Carp into the Great Lakes could be stopped by closing the locks that stand between the carp and the lakes... It is true that in doing this, it would hurt the 30 million dollar a year barge industry of Illinois (who might we know just happens to be an ex senator from Illinois) while failing to do this jeopardizes the 70 billion dollar a year commercial fishing and recreational industries in the Great Lakes... In my best Glenn Beck, isn't one of these numbers bigger than the other? What we have is a president so totally corrupted by Chicago thug politics that he is willing to tell the Army Corps of Engineers to leave the locks open, virtually insuring the intrusion of this predatory species into the Great Lakes and the ultimate collapse of a 70 billion dollar a year industry...

The reason this administration won't do anything to stop illegal immigration is for the same illegitimate reason... These progressives are losing their base as more and more of the people they have preyed upon for decades are waking up to the fact that their whole agenda is a lie... These scum bags (I'm referring to the progressives) don't give a tinker's damn about anything but staying in power, regardless of the broken lives and promises used to maintain their position... In the words of Saul Alinsky, "the end justifies the means"... They realize that every illegal they get into our country will become a blind voter / follower as soon as they can provide amnesty and enslave another class of people with their entitlement programs...

In conclusion, this administration is doing anything and everything humanly possible to destroy the America we know and love... The time for Passive Resistance is over . . . .

Senate Leaders Vow Amnesty Next!

Sens. Schumer and Graham Make Promises to U.S. Chamber of Commerce, AFL-CIO
Jim Robb, NumbersUSA: Last month, the U.S. economy shed 85,000 more jobs. Unemployment stands at more than 15 million. And black unemployment has risen to 17.2%. Sound like a good time for an Illegal Alien Mass Amnesty? Not to me, either.

But that's exactly what the leaders of the Senate's Judiciary Committee promised at a January 11 meeting with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the AFL-CIO, and various ethnic and pro-amnesty groups. Senate staffers told the open borders folks that Sen. Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Graham (R-SC) are going to shove an Amnesty to the top of the Senate agenda as soon as they pass the health care bill.

Let me point out the obvious. If we were to fail, and 12 - 20 million illegal aliens were to become eligible for legal work permits, where would these people find legal jobs? Probably from Americans getting fired to make way for the new, cheap and now legal foreign workers! Don't let that happen. . . .

[W]e have to stick together and FIGHT if we want to defeat the upcoming Amnesty. We have to FIGHT FOR OUR JOBS! Some of the "leaders" in Congress, and just about all the open borders coalition, insists America still has a LABOR SHORTAGE! Are these people nuts?

Haitian illegal immigrants get temporary asylum

The Department of Homeland Security announces that an estimated 100,000 to 200,000 Haitians living in the United States illegally to stay and work in the United States for 18 months, pending the earthquake recovery. 

Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said the decision to grant Temporary Protected Status -- to illegal immigrants from Haiti who were living in the United States as of Jan. 12 -- was a gesture of compassion and an attempt to ensure that the immigrants can continue to send money to their devastated homeland. Americans Defeat Illegals & In-state tuition in NJ!

ALIPAC: A proposal to let illegal immigrants pay in-state tuition at New Jersey colleges has fallen short of the support needed to pass New Jersey's Legislature.

Sen. Ronald Rice (D., Essex), a sponsor of the measure, said he believed the plan was five votes short in the Senate. Opponents worried about the message of providing benefits to illegal immigrants during a time of economic turbulence.

The decision to call off the vote kills the measure on the final day of the legislative session, and likely puts the issue off the table for some time. Gov.-elect Christopher J. Christie has said he opposes the idea, and he takes office next week.

Advocates for immigrants, who argued the bill would help children who did not choose to come to New Jersey but were brought by their parents, are left to regroup. Some said they hoped for reform on a national level, while others said they hope they can convince Christie to change his mind.

Arizona taxpayers owed $1 billion from illegal immigration

KVOA.com PHOENIX - As Arizona [Former] Governor, Janet Napolitano submitted numerous invoices to the federal government for the cost of incarcerating criminal aliens under the State Criminal Alien Assistance Plan (SCAAP) from FY1994 to FY2008. Today State Treasurer Dean Martin announced that he is now pursuing those same claims with now Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

"The cost of illegal immigration has exhausted the Arizona State Treasury. In order to pay for the federal government's responsibility of securing our national borders and incarcerating individuals who enter the United States illegally and commit crimes, the state has incurred hundreds of millions of dollars of debt to pay these bills," said Treasurer Dean Martin.

8 U.S.C. § 1231(i)(2), requires that the federal government "provides for compensation to the State. . .with respect to the incarceration of the undocumented criminal alien" and the compensation be based upon "average cost of incarceration of a prisoner in the relevant State."

As [Former] Governor, Janet Napolitano in her March 17, 2008 invoice said, "the federal government is required by law to pay these costs, but has failed to pay more than pennies on the dollar." "The updated invoice, including accrued interest, is over one billion dollars," said Treasurer Dean Martin. "Illegal immigration has literally broken the bank here in Arizona. Napolitano is now responsible for securing our borders and is in a position to make good on the bill that she said the federal government owed. It's time for this bill to be paid before legal remedies are pursued to recoup this long overdue debt to Arizona taxpayers."

Obamacare for Illegals Already in the Works!

From the left-wing Talking Points Memo comes the headline, "Democrats Considering Health Care-Immigration Deal To Overcome Key Sticking Point."

Following Harry Reid's success in passing his 2,000+ page version of Obamacare, the Left now feels safe revealing what most conservative activists have realized all along--Democrats fully intend to cover illegal immigrants with the so-called "reform."

Lawmakers who want to extend health coverage to illegal immigrants will not block the passage of the final health care reform bill so long as the White House offers a substantive promise to start pushing comprehensive immigration legislation this year.

So the plan is to pass the bill without including illegal immigrants, then add them to the plan later this year. Anywhere but the Democrat Party, that's about the height of dishonesty. In fact most people would consider it an outright lie!

Rep. Joe Wilson's famous "You lie!" cry was never inaccurate after all. Feigning outrage, Democrats knew all along this was part of the plan. In the article, reporter Christina Bellantoni, actually credits Wilson's outburst for forcing Democrats to temporarily abandon the plan to cover illegals.

The Senate's health care bill bars illegals from any sort of coverage, a provision embraced after Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouted "You lie!" during Obama's address to Congress when the president said that illegals would not be able to get health care under the legislation.

TPM's liberal sources in the White House even admit they're lying, and that talks are already proceeding to construct an immigration bill that will sweep illegal immigrants under the umbrella of Obamacare.

TPMDC sources have been telling us that members won't admit it publicly but they are ready to concede on immigration in the health care bill. Political aides in the White House have told key parties in Congress that President Obama wants to see a bill this year, and negotiations are under way for how it would be written.

Joe Wilson wasn't wrong, he wasn't mistaken, he wasn't confused, he was dead on when he yelled to President Obama, "You lie!"

Lack of Immigration Enforcement Results in Death of Utah Deputy

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Police searched a property in Salt Lake City on Tuesday after cordoning off the neighborhood but did not find the suspect in the fatal shooting of a central Utah sheriff’s deputy.

Officers searched a home and other structures and vehicles, including a shed and a trailer, but did not locate Roberto Miramontes Roman, 37.

Officers surrounded the house on the city’s west side after Miramontes Roman’s orange Corvette was found in the neighborhood, where he is believed to have relatives, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Nigbur said.

Two schools were closed and another was put on lockdown as police cordoned off the area. In the afternoon they reopened the roads after the search of the property was complete. Police also towed away the Corvette.

Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox, 37, was gunned down around 1 a.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop near Delta, about 130 miles southwest of Salt Lake. Millard County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Lindsay Mitchell said Fox, a five-year veteran, was married with two children. Full Story Here: Utah deputy shot, killed; suspect sought

Update: Millard Country Sheriff Robert A. Dekker has informed the media that the shooter, Roberto Miramontes Roman, is a Mexican national, has been previously arrested for theft charges and has been previously deported from the United States as an illegal immigrant.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur identified the “prime suspect” sought in the shooting as Roberto Miramontes Roman. He is described as a 37-year-old Latino, 5-foot-7, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Roman is possibly armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, and is considered dangerous. Anyone with information on Roman’s whereabouts is urged to immediately call 911.

“We have information that he’s not going to be taken alive,” Nigbur said.

Roman has a significant criminal history, including drug offenses, and a court-ordered illegal-immigration-related deportation.

Roman has a criminal history beginning in 1992 with a misdemeanor drug distribution charge to which he pleaded guilty in Fillmore’s 4th District Court.

Then in 1996 and 1997, Roman was charged in Millard County with a handful of felonies in two different cases, including drug charges, receiving stolen property and a weapons count.

He resolved the cases by pleading guilty to one count of third-degree felony drug possession and one count of second-degree felony drug possession with intent to distribute. SOURCE: PoliceLink

I only have one real question to ask at this particular time, WHY was this SOB on the streets of our nation? How many *EPIC FAILURES* does it take before the American people take matters into their own hands?

A loving husband has lost his wife. Two children have lost their mother. This nation has lost another Law Enforcement Officer. It didn’t have to happen!

Our lack of IMMIGRATION enforcement is the cause of this tragedy! The failure that IS the policy the USA assumes towards ILLEGAL INVADERS is the cause of this tragedy. The guy has already been deported once, anyone care to venture a guess as to HOW he got back in?

To the family of Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox, our most sincere sympathy, we are sharing in your hurt and loss. Rest in Peace Josie!
