Liberal journalists to campaign against term "illegal immigrant"

America, You Asked For It!: Leo E. Laurence, a member of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Diversity Committee, recently reported the Committee had "decided to engage in a yearlong educational campaign designed to inform and sensitize journalists as to the best language to use when writing and reporting on people of different cultures and backgrounds." The "best language to use" refers to the use of the term "illegal immigrant," which Laurence says the Committee opposes. Since news of the campaign broke, SPJ has prefaced Laurence's article with the following:
CLARIFICATION: The following article is an opinion piece and does not reflect the views of SPJ, its membership or its Diversity Committee. The committee itself has taken no official initiative on the use of the phrase "illegal immigrant."

Though the organization is now trying to clarify Laurence's article as an "opinion piece," the author quotes committee chairman George Daniels' email announcing the planned educational re-education campaign. He further quotes Daniels seeming to anticipate and deflect criticism that would arise, claiming the campaign is "not about being politically correct." Instead Daniels says the campaign intends to "minimize harm" by utilizing sensitivity to other cultures in their reporting. But it's hard to get the genie back in the bottle.

Daniels is probably telling the truth when he says this isn't about being politically correct. More likely, it's a conscious effort to re-educate not only journalist, but consumers of news as well. SPJ's real intent is more likely to change Americans' attitudes toward illegal immigration by using softer, gentler language to describe the criminals. The Diversity Committee has decided that journalists' have a duty to shape Americans' psyche rather than report the news.

The SPJ campaign flies in the face of the accepted journalistic standard on the topic found in the Associated Press stylebook. The AP stands by its standard recommendation that journalists use the term "illegal immigrant." The Daily Caller reports AP's Deputy Standards Editor David Minthorn responded, "Together, the terms [illegal + immigrant] describe a person who resides in a country unlawfully by residency or citizenship requirements. Alternatives like undocumented worker, illegal alien or illegals lack precision or may have negative connotations. Illegal immigrant, on the other hand, is accurate and neutral for news stories."

Laurence's response to Minthorn's defense of its standard, "The Associated Press is wrong. Their stylebook is wrong. It is not consistent with the Constitution."

Laurence believes the US Constitution mandates journalists make the adjustment and stop using the term "illegal" in favor of the more benign "undocumented." Noting that all are presumed innocent until proven guilty he declares, "Simply put, only a judge, not a journalist, can say that someone is an illegal." The problem here is that a news article describing illegal activity as illegal activity is not the same as convicting someone of a criminal offense. The constitutional argument Laurence puts forth is only valid within the US legal system, and not applicable in any sense to journalists and their reporting. If it were, reporters should stop calling kidnappers, murderers, rapists, child abusers, thieves, and every other kind of criminal by the name of their crime.

Jehmu Greene, former director of the Women's Media Center, agrees with Laurence's assertion and the SPJ campaign to stamp out the use of the "illegal immigrant" label. She even goes so far as to state that use of the term is "increasing violence against immigrants." When asked by Fox News host Megyn Kelly to provide evidence of her claim, Greene was unable to provide any. Instead, she launched into an obfuscatory narrative about language changing the way people "look at different communities."

The simple fact is the Society of Professional Journalists Diversity Committee is launching a campaign to change the way illegal immigration is reported in an effort to prevent American citizens and legal immigrants from recognizing the criminal nature of their entry into the United States. Brad Blakeman, former assistant to President Bush, goes so far as to declare the real intent behind this campaign to achieve amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal aliens in the country today. That sounds more likely.

The liberal left want amnesty as a means of securing 12 million more voters to support their agenda to destroy this country. The motivation for this campaign may not be political correctness, but it is most certainly political.

Earlier this month, US Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry was killed in a shootout along the Arizona-Mexico border. A study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform found last summer that illegal immigration costs the US approximately $113 billion per year. According to the study, the costs of illegal immigration to the state of Texas is equal to its budget deficit, and the costs to the states of New York and California exceed their respective budget deficits.

The SPJ campaign to eradicate the use of the term "illegal immigrant" seeks to cover up these problems and gloss over the negative impact of their crimes on our society. Politics, pure and simple.

We will continue to use the AP approved, accepted, and accurate term "illegal immigrant" to describe immigrants who break our laws to enter this country.

Illegal Immigration: Molestation, Rape, and Murder

by Matt Ross: Since the DREAM Act is dead, at least for now, and it’s supporters are vowing to press on with their efforts to reward crime, I thought it would be a good idea to shine some light on what the media will not tell you.

In 2006, Deborah Schurman-Kauflin, Ph.D., researched for an article, “The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants in the United States. While Dr. Schurman-Kauflin has been featured on MSM broadcasts as a criminal expert many times, the highlighted article received no attention whatsoever. Here are some excerpts and commentary. All emphasis is mine.
Based on population numbers of 12,000,000 illegal immigrants and the fact that young males make up more of this population than the general U.S. population, sex offenders in the illegal immigrant group make up a higher percentage. When examining ICE reports and public records, it is consistent to find sex offenders comprising 2% of illegals apprehended. Based on this 2% figure, which is conservative, there are approximately 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States.

This translates to 93 sex offenders and 12 serial sexual offenders coming across U.S. borders illegally per day. The 1500 offenders in this study had a total of 5,999 victims. Each sex offender averaged 4 victims. This places the estimate for victimization numbers around 960,000 for the 88 months examined in this study.

In any other context, this would be a national outrage, with considerable time and coverage spent on “raising awareness.” However, since this casts a Democratic client group in a negative light, the MSM is willing to let the crimes, as well as the victims, go unheard.

Since most sexual offences are committed againt females, I did wonder if NOW, or any other feminist group, has an opinion on this. However, it appears that NOW is too busy suing Hooters to respond to several hundred thousand female victims of rape, molestation, and murder.

It’s all about priorities, you know.

Dr. Schurman-Kauflin also profiled the perpetrators or these crimes…
They averaged 4 victims per offender. Nearly 63% had been deported on another offense prior to the sex crime. There was an average of 3 years of committing crimes such as DUI, assaults, or drug related offenses prior to being apprehended for a sexual offense.

Illegal immigrants who commit sex crimes first cross the U.S. border illegally. Then they gradually commit worse crimes and are continually released back into society or deported. Those who were deported simply returned illegally again. Only 2% of the offenders in this study has no history of criminal behavior, beyond crossing the border illegally. There is a clear pattern of criminal escalation. From misdemeanors such as assault or DUI, to drug offenses, illegal immigrants who commit sex crimes break U.S. laws repeatedly. They are highly mobile, work in low skilled jobs with their hands, use drugs and alcohol, are generally promiscuous, have little family stability, and choose victims who are easy to attack. Their attacks are particularly brutal, and they use a hands-on method of controlling and/or killing their victims.

This speaks volumes about the scope of the problem. At the first line of defense, our border is as pourous as ever. People that commit crimes, and are deported, simply return to commit more crimes. I can think of no better case to be made for border security than this.
I would strongly encourage you to read the rest of the article. It is well researched, as was reportedly self funded to avoid any appearances of bias.

There are two things that I find outrageous, they are related, but are better discussed separately. One is the silence from the left, especially the feminists. Here are, by now, over a million sex crimes committed (mostly against women) IN THIS COUNTRY, that could have been prevented by border security. Just to rehash, the number looks like this…

1,000,000

Over one million victims, and NOW has nothing to say?
Added to this outrage is the silence from the media. This has not been covered, and it never will, unless it is to discredit the author, or anyone that points to this problem. Apparently a million or more sex crimes isn’t enough to warrant even a mention, but I bet you’ll hear all about Obama’s Hawaii trip on the evening news.

Also, let’s throw in the supporters of amnesty (The Dream Act). Of course, they have no interest in this being mentioned, as it would complicate their efforts to not only be excused for their criminal activity, but be subsidized for it. I think it is worth asking if 1,000,000 victims are enough, or well worth the price for their amnesty, but they won’t answer. I have to assume this as fact: that they don’t care about the viticms of illegal immigration, as long as they get their amnesty and benefits.

Then, not to be excluded, are the cowards in both political parties that refuse to bring this to the national stage for fear of being labeled as racists. The rent-a-mob is noisey, but even they have limits, and people rising in unison to support the victims of these crimes (of which 30% are Latino), would be hard to defeat. Even when the “progressives” resort to their typical Alinsky tactics, 1,000,000 victims are difficult to marginalize. But that won’t stop them from trying. In so doing, they’ll expose themselves further.

The second outrage is that the “progressives” are using the illegals, just as they use any other minority group that they can make dependent upon them. Here is, again, the video that shows them slipping, and admitting the truth.

So there you are. We have crimes, victims, political opportunists of every sort, cowards, and criminals. The victims of these crimes are being ignored, some for political gain, others to avoid the price of their own crimes, some out of cowardice, but all are being used to grow the power of a few…a few that would use others to gain control over most of our daily activities. And wouldn’t a few million more voters go far towards accomplishing that power?

And what of the latinos? They can be put in government houseing, welfare progams, and government schools. All of those will prevent them from leaving poverty, allowing the Democrats to threaten them into voting “progressive” each and every election cycle.

U.S. Muslim Congressman Declares: Borders Will Be 'Irrelevant'

by Aaron Klein: A so-called spiritual conference at which Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., called for the U.S. border to become an "irrelevancy" was led by a slew of extremists, including a Marxist who reportedly compared the tea-party movement to Hitler.

Conference speakers include radicals with deep ties to President Obama.

Yesterday, TheBlaze.com, founded by Fox News host Glenn Beck, posted a video from a conference led by theNetwork of Spiritual Progressives, or NSP, in which Ellison, the first Muslim member of Congress, declared to about 400 attendees that "God willing," the U.S. border will become irrelevant.

Stated Ellison: "No security policy position can be premised on military might. ...The way it works is we are a country guided by ideals of equity, generosity and engagement in our relations with other nations and those philosophical ideals create safe borders … and, God willing, one day the border will become an irrelevancy."

Ellison continued, "And you know, the fact is, it's time for us to answer a critical question, and that is how are we going to shape a progressive foreign policy agenda that provides a platform for the U.S. government in the 21st century."

WND has learned the conference was led by a slew of extremists who have had close relationships with Obama. One of the main speakers was avowed Marxist Michael Lerner, editor of the pro-Palestinian Tikkun Magazine. Lerner has been accused of using the magazine to justify Palestinian terror and has written articles in which he suggested the 9/11 attacks were a response to U.S. policies.

According to an account of the conference by Baltimore Sun columnist Marta Mossburg, who attended the two-day event, Lerner compared tea party activists to Hitler at least five times.

Mossburg wrote that Lerner used the conference to bolster support for Obama. "We're here to support Obama. …We're here to help him to be the Obama Americans thought they elected," she quoted Lerner as saying. Lerner said Obama attended Tikkun meetings in Chicago and used to read the magazine, according to conversations he had with Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.

Lerner identifies himself as an ordained rabbi. However, as Discover the Networks notes, Lerner received a controversial private rabbinic ordination by "Jewish Renewal" rabbis, whose ordinations are recognized only by those within the Jewish Renewal community and the out of mainstream Reconstructionist Judaism.

Orthodox Judaism, the Reform movement's Central Conference of American Rabbis, and the Conservative movement's Rabbinical Assembly all consider such ordinations invalid. Lerner was an activist in the 1960s anti-war movement, the Students for a Democratic Society, from which the Weather Underground domestic terrorist organization splintered. Meanwhile, a co-chair of the Network of Spiritual Progressives conference at which Ellison made his remarks is Princeton professor Cornel West, an avowed Marxist and honorary member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Obama named West, whom he has called a personal friend, to the Black Advisory Council of his presidential campaign. West was a key point man between Obama's campaign and the black community. West served as an adviser on Louis Farrakhan's Million Man March and is a self-described personal friend of the Nation of Islam leader. West authored two books on race with Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., who was at the center of the controversy last year in which Obama criticized Gates' treatment by police outside his home after a report of a burglary.

Another speaker at the Network of Spiritual Progressives event was Heather Booth, founder of the Midwest Academy, which teaches the community organizing tactics of radical Saul Alinsky. WND was first to report that the Woods Fund, a Chicago nonprofit on which Obama served as paid director alongside Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers, provided funding to Midwest Academy.

WND also broke the story that the executive director of Midwest Academy was part of the team that developed and delivered a group of volunteers for President Obama's 2008 campaign.

Also, in August 1998, Obama participated with Booth in a panel discussion following the opening performance in Chicago of the play "The Love Song of Saul Alinsky," a work described by the Chicago Sun-Times as "bringing to life one of America's greatest community organizers."

Ellison's entry into Congress drew attention when he posed with his hand on a Quran instead of a Bible after taking his oath of office in January 2007. His campaign was bolstered by the work of staff members of the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations.

As WND reported last year, Ellison defended CAIR when members of Congress sought to investigate whether CAIR was placing interns with members of strategic security committees, as revealed in the book "Muslim Mafia" by Dave Gaubatz and Paul Sperry. Ellison read a statement in Congress criticizing the call for an investigation.

"The idea that we should investigate Muslim interns as spies is a blow to the very principle of religious freedom that our founding fathers cherished so dearly," Ellison said. "If anything, we should be encouraging all Americans to engage in the U.S. political process; to take part in, and to contribute to, the great democratic experiment that is America," he said.

U.S. prosecutors, however, believe CAIR, while claiming to be a civil-rights group, is actually a front group for Hamas and other terrorists. The Justice Department stated in September 2007 during its prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation in Dallas – the largest terror-financing case in history – that CAIR "has been identified by the government at trial as a participant in an ongoing and ultimately unlawful conspiracy to support a designated terrorist organization, a conspiracy from which CAIR never withdrew."

Anti-Border Corruption Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mark Pryor announced yesterday that his legislation to prevent Mexican drug cartels from corrupting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents is primed for President Obama’s signature. The legislation, passed by the Senate unanimously in September, was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives on Tuesday evening.

Pryor said the Anti-Border Corruption Act will help prevent rogue border agents from being hired or retained. It requires the CBP to follow employment policies requiring polygraph tests of all applicants for law enforcement positions. The requirement would have to be met within two years, providing the agency adequate time to hire and train examiners. The bill also requires the CBP to initiate background checks on all backlogged employees within six months.

“As we strengthen the U.S.-Mexico border, drug cartels are getting more creative and waiving big money at U.S. border patrol agents who are willing to waive through illegal shipments,” Pryor said. “My legislation ensures that a rigorous hiring process and consistent background checks are used to weed out bad apples. ”

In March of 2010, Pryor held a hearing investigating corruption of U.S. border officials. During the hearing, CBP officials revealed that less than 15 percent of job applicants receive a polygraph test during the hiring process, although standing policy calls for all to be examined. Of those tested, an alarming 60 percent of candidates failed the test.

In one case, an individual sought employment as a border inspector specifically to smuggle drugs. He imported more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana to the U.S. and received more than $5 million in bribes. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy.

Pryor said there has been a spike in internal corruption cases, in part because of the agency’s swift growth. Investigations of CBP officials have more than tripled since 2006, and there were 770 allegations of corruption this year alone. In August of 2010, Congress passed and the President signed into law a bill that requires the CBP to hire an additional 1,000 new border patrol agents.

"Just last week, a border security agent was murdered by suspected drug gang members in Southern Arizona, and a border patrol agent was arrested in a sting operation that led to the discovery of some $2.8 million in illegal narcotics. It is clear that drug gangs will stop at nothing to move their product, and will use their resources to try and corrupt our personnel if we don't seal the cracks in our hiring process now,” Pryor said. “It is my hope President Obama will swiftly sign this legislation into law to strengthen integrity at the border.” [Press Release]

Saturday Morning Fighting Over The Dream Act

Update 10:37 AM CST - Fight Over, for now! The US Senate blocked discussion of DREAM Act, sending the bill to defeat. Democrats could not get 60 votes to support the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, a measure that would have created a pathway to citizenship for undocumented illegal immigrants who were brought to this country as children. The mood of the country "shifted on the issue of illegal immigration, support among Republicans and some Democratic senators evaporated, with many decrying it as backdoor amnesty for lawbreakers. Even a former co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), voted against it." [Source: Washington Post]
------------
Kenneth Wallis, Little Rock Immigration Examiner: Saturday morning should be devoted to uneducational cartoons, breakfast in pajamas, and video games, especially so close to Christmas! Sadly, it appears that the Leftist Controlled Senate will attempt to sneak another attempt of The Dream Act Saturday morning! I will have to watch whichever CSPAN it's on instead of reruns of DragonBall Z. This bill will cost millions just in processing by the already overburdened and unsecured Immigration System, which legalized 3 of the Fort Dix Six, giving 1 of them U.S. Citizen status. Keep the calls and faxes going. If the general switchboard doesn't work, call the D.C. and the local offices. Especially Pryor! There may not be an exact amount of the number of illegal aliens who will get citizenship/legal status from the Dream Act, but I can guarantee it's over 9,000.

Why are Mexican drones flying over US territory?

America, You Asked For It! In El Paso, Texas yesterday, a Mexican military drone fell from the sky. The big question is, "Why are Mexican military aircraft patrolling US airspace?" The rampant corruption in that country's government and military, coupled with the ongoing drug war on the border and unfettered illegal immigration lead the suspect mind to wonder--Are US military aid dollars funding operations to infiltrate our own country?

Last year it was reported that Mexican President Felipe Calderon had asked President Obama for armed drones to help his country track down and kill leaders of the drug cartel. On Calderon's watch, over 30,000 have died due to drug violence according to Mexico's attorney general Arturo Chavez.

For years, the US military has used the drones in the Afghan and Iraq wars to attack insurgent targets. But the drones have also been used extensively to gather intelligence on reconnaissance missions in those wars. Most Americans would likely have no problem with supplying these vehicles to help the Mexican government battle the vicious drug lords, but those missions would take place south of the border. But reconnaissance missions on our side could indicate the drones are now being used to aid criminals infiltrating the US with illicit drugs and/or illegal immigrants.

There have been numerous reports over the last several years of Mexican military units interfering with US Border Patrol operations. Earlier this year, border patrol agents reported taking fire from a Mexican military unit that crossed the border in New Mexico. According to a union official for border patrol agents, the Juarez drug cartel had offered a $200,000 bounty on US Border Patrol agents.

In 2003, a group of civilian volunteer border watchers reported that a squad of Mexican soldiers fired on their position. Tom Tancredo, then a US Representative from Colorado speculated such incursions into US territory were intended to support and facilitate the movement of illegal drugs and aliens into the country.

Unmanned drones, in the hands of corrupt Mexican military officials bought by cartel drug money, could easily be used to search intended border crossings for border patrol or police presence. Yesterday's crash raises suspicion that this may indeed be taking place.

"We are collecting data about the crash. We don't have the aircraft because it was returned to its owner," said Keith Holloway, spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates aircraft crashes in the United States and in other countries that request its help.

It may be difficult to prove any such allegation because the drone was immediately returned to the Mexican military before any investigation could be conducted. El Paso Police Detective Mike Baranyay said he received a report of the crashed aircraft but his department was told "it was not a police matter." The US Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security refused to comment on why the drone was returned to Mexico before an investigation was conducted.

Mexican government and military officials have a well-documented history of corruption and collaboration with the drug cartels and supporting illegal immigration. This history makes it easy to infer such corruption and collaboration may well have been at work in this incident. We supplied Mexico with these drones to fight the drug war. If the Mexican military and/or government is turning these weapons against us, it's time we begin to look at our neighbor to the south as more of an enemy than a friend.

Border Patrol Agent Killed in Southern Arizona

A shootout between border patrol agents and bandits in the rugged canyons near Mexico's border left one officer dead and a suspect injured, a union official said Wednesday.

The Snooper Report:  TUCSON, Ariz. -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot after he encountered several suspects in southern Arizona, officials announced Wednesday.

Agent Brian A. Terry was killed late Tuesday near Rio Rico, Ariz., according to a statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

At least four suspects are in custody and another is still being pursued.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Terry family for their tragic loss," CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin said in a statement. "Our commitment to Agent Terry and his family is that we will do everything possible to bring to justice those responsible for this despicable act."

The FBI and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office are investigating Terry's death.

KOLD-TV in Tucson reports the incident occurred just after 11 p.m. Tuesday in the Peck Canyon area north of Nogales.

Prior to Terry's death, the last fatal shooting of a Border Patrol agent was on July 23, 2009, when Robert Rosas, 30, was killed by unidentified assailants while responding to suspicious activity in a known smuggling corridor near Campo, Calif., CBP officials said.

In May, President Obama authorized the deployment of up to an additional 1,200 National Guard troops to the Southwest border to provide support for surveillance, reconnaissance and narcotics enforcement to augment CBP and U.S. Customs and Immigration (ICE) authorities already in place. Those deployments began on Aug. 1. Obama also requested $600 million in supplemental funds for enhanced border protection and law enforcement activities.

"Over the past year and a half, this administration has pursued a new border security strategy with an unprecedented sense of urgency, making historic investments in personnel, technology and infrastructure," Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement released on July 19.

"These troops will provide direct support to federal law enforcement officers and agents working in high-risk areas to disrupt criminal organizations seeking to move people and goods illegally across the Southwest border," the statement continued.

Napolitano also announced in July that more than $47 million in fiscal year 2010 Operation Stonegraden grants for the Southwest border states to support law enforcement personnel, overtime and related costs. Nearly 80 percent of the funding will go to Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas, up from 59 percent in 2008.

Racist Comments From Dream Amnesty Supporters To Replace Old White Men

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) Video: Illegal aliens given Dream Amnesty to replace whites? As the US Senate hangs within a few votes of passing Dream Act Amnesty for illegal aliens any day before Christmas 2010, Dream Amnesty supporters make and cheer racist comments against white Americans!

On December 13, at the Levitt Pavilion in the historic MacCarthur Park, UCLA's Kent Wong gave another exhilarating speech at "The DREAM Act is alive" vigil held where he expressed his admiration to DREAMers, their evolution of this country and generation, and how will go on to do many great things with their lives and for this country.

"I'm proud of the DREAMers who have changed the course of this country," Wong said. "I am so proud of the DREAMers who have take over the chambers of the US senate, who have taken over the office of John McCain... Who have marked on foot from Florida to Washington, DC."

"We will win the dream act soon -- very soon," he exclaimed. "When that day comes, we will celebrate with millions and millions of people of people across this country who are standing with you tonight. Who stand for justice, who stand for democracy and equal opportunities for all."

"When that day happens, the young people of the DREAM Act movement, will go on to accomplish and do great things with your lives," he said. "You will go on to become lawyers, teachers, doctors and members of the US congress to replace those old white men... You are the hope and future of this country. You are hope and future of your generation."

If Dream Act Amnesty passes, millions of Americans will be DISPLACED and REPLACED in their jobs, seats in college, and elections.

According to Dr. Wong, that replacement will be racially motivated and targeted.

Look Who's Now Getting Special Travel Privileges

ARRA News Service - Let's put the following into perspective. These special travel privileges are to be granted to "an estimated 84 MILLION Mexican citizens." Mexico is the country where people are already fleeing or just seeking to illegally enter the US for jobs and American prosperity and benefits. Mexico is also a country with a major internal war is going on with illegal drug cartels and groups smuggling illegals including terrorists from foreign countries into the Unites States. Mexico cannot solve its internal problems and cannot stop those warring internally in their country with mass murders occurring weekly. They do not know or are unwilling to identify and remove foreign domestic terrorists from their country who are making their way to the U.S. via Mexico. And yet, the US is willing to give "SPECIAL" travel privileges to 84 MILLION Mexican citizens through our country. Does anyone else see a potential problem here?

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 08: U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano (C) speaks as Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) (R) and Senate Majority Whip Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) listen during a news conference on the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, also known as DREAM Act, on Capitol Hill December 8, 2010 in Washington, DC. The Senate and the House will vote today on the DREAM Act, which would grant young illegal immigrants citizenship if they attend college or join the military. (Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images)
By Jerome R. Corsi, WorldNetDaily: In a further indication that the "North American Union" agenda is quietly proceeding under what remains of the Security and Prosperity Partnership initiative in the Obama administration, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano signed, with little fanfare, an agreement in Mexico that would extend special "trusted traveler" access to the U.S. to an estimated 84 million Mexicans.

"In Mexico City, Secretary Napolitano and Mexican Ministry of the Interior Secretary José Francisco Blake Mora signed an agreement expressing their intent to develop a Global Entry international trusted traveler pilot program between the United States and Mexico – leveraging the success of the United States' Global Entry program to facilitate secure, legitimate travel between the two nations," announced a DHS statement Nov. 30.

In September 2006, WND reported that the Department of Transportation, acting through a Security and Prosperity Partnership "working group," was preparing to issue North American biometric border passes to Mexican, Canadian and U.S. "trusted travelers," according to documents released to WND under a Freedom of Information Act request.

The Security and Prosperity Partnership, or SPP, was announced by President George W. Bush, together with then-Mexican President Vicente Fox and then-Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin at a press conference at the end of their trilateral summit meeting in Waco, Texas, March 23, 2005, without any U.S. congressional approval as a treaty or international agreement.

Under the SPP, the U.S., Mexico and Canada organized some 20 different "shadow government" bureaucratic working groups composed of agency heads and undersecretaries in the three nations. The groups spanned a wide range of policy areas, from e-commerce, to aviation policy, to borders and immigration, trilateral travel, transportation, energy, environment, food and agriculture, health and financial services.

WND has frequently reported, beginning in 2006, that the SPP was intended to implement a stealth plan to produce a North American Union composed of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The agreement Napolitano signed with Mexico Nov. 30 appears to bring the SPP working group "trusted traveler" commitment closer to fruition.

The Transportation Security Administration refused to answer a WND inquiry regarding whether trusted traveler cards issued to Mexicans would allow the holder to avoid the new U.S. enhanced screening with full-body backscatter X-ray machines.

As described on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, the trusted traveler program allows applicants to receive a biometric border pass to facilitate cross-border travel. The recipient must undergo a thorough background check against criminal, law enforcement, customs, immigration and terrorist files, including biometric fingerprint checks and a personal interview with a CBP officer.

The trusted traveler network is more thoroughly described on the "Global Entry" website maintained by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

"Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low risk travelers upon arrival in the United States," the CBP website proclaims.

"Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program. Participants may enter the United States by using automated kiosks located at select airports."

"A key part of the [Nov. 30] agreement is a trusted traveler program that allows airline passengers who have gone through rigorous background checks to bypass lengthy screenings at airport checkpoints," wrote All Headline News correspondent Tom Ramstack, reporting from Mexico City. "They must also provide biometric information – such as fingerprints – that can be encoded onto trusted traveler cards and run through electronic card readers."

Richardson reported that Mexican Ministry of the Interior Secretary José Francisco Blake Mora said that 84 million Mexicans could qualify for the Global Entry program.
Global Entry kiosks under the trusted traveler program have been installed at the following 20 airports, according to the CBP website.
  • Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
  • Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston (IAH)
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Honolulu International Airport (HNL)
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York (JFK)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • San Juan-Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport-SeaTac (SEA)
  • Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Trusted travelers answer customs declarations questions on the kiosks and present the resulting transaction receipts to customs agents for rapid transit through customs screening for easy access into the U.S.

The SPP in the administration of President Bush appeared designed to replicate the steps taken in Europe over a 50-year period following the end of World War II to transform an economic agreement under the European Common Market into a full-fledged regional government, operating as the European Union, with its own currency, the euro, functioning as the sole legitimate currency in what has become known as "the eurozone."

The concern was that under the SPP, the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, could be evolved into a regional government, a North American Union, with a regional currency, the amero, designed to replace the U.S. dollar, the Mexican peso and the Canadian dollar.

WND has reported analysts have believed the North American integration plan will proceed incrementally, largely below the radar, since the SPP was declared "dead" by one of its chief architects, American University Professor Robert A. Pastor, who for nearly 15 years has been a major proponent of building a "North American Community."

Voters Still Put Border Control Well Ahead of Legalizing Those Here Illegally

Rasmussen Reports: Voters still strongly believe that gaining control of the border should be the legislative priority. . . . 65% of Likely U.S. Voters say gaining control of the border is more important in terms of immigration legislation that legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States. Twenty-seven percent (27%) disagree and say legalizing the status of illegal workers is more important.

These numbers are consistent with findings for years.

Voters are evenly divided over whether young people brought to this country illegally by their parents should be viewed as breaking the law. Making a distinction between illegal immigrants and their children is at the heart of the so-called DREAM Act that some in Congress are hoping to pass before the end of the lame duck session. . . . House-Passed Amnesty Could Hit Senate For Vote As Early As Wednesday

IF WE LOSE THIS ONE, 10 YEARS OF BEATING VERY AMNESTY WILL BE NULLIFIED

My gut feeling is still that we ought to be able to defeat the House-passed Dream Act amnesty when it comes up for a vote in the Senate later this week.

But . . . Do you really want to rely on my gut?

PHONE THESE UNDECLARED SENATORS WHO COULD KILL AMNESTY ONCE AND FOR ALL If you can move at least two of these Senators into NO votes, I don't think there would be any chance of the amnesty passing.

The staffers of a couple of these have been telling our members that their Senator plans to vote NO. But the fact that those Senators have not publicly stated their opposition or shared that in any way with reporters is not a cause for great confidence. So, all of these need all the phone calls they can get. (See "Talking Points" below.)

Use the Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121

ALASKA Sen. Murkowski (R)                      |   LOUISIANA Sen. Landrieu (D)

MISSOURI Sen. McCaskill (D)                    |  MONTANA Sen. Baucus (D)

NORTH DAKOTA Sen. Conrad (D)             |   WEST VIRGINIA Sen. Manchin (D)

Note that most of these states are small-population states. We need a lot more phone calls going to those offices. If you live in those states, or in the same region, or have any other connection to those states, please make the calls. The other side is absolutely flooding their offices with phone calls making the most emotional appeals possible.

PHONE THESE SENATORS WHO NEED ENCOURAGEMENT TO STICK WITH 'NO' These Senators would have voted NO last Thursday if Senate Majority Leader Reid had not successfully moved to table the amnesty until he could find some more YES votes.

But there is so much horse trading going on right now with the tax deal, with the funding for the entire federal government still up in the air, with the START Treaty and any number of other issues that have to be resolved before Senators head home.

THESE SENATORS NEED TO HEAR WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. Thank them for their publicized promise to vote NO on the amnesty and then remind the staffers why NO is the right vote.

Our Hill Team asks that, if you have a Republican Senator (other than Lugar of Indiana or Bennett of Utah), phone him/her and encourage them to stick with their promise of NO.

But these Senators need the most encouragement because of the special politics of their own states and other vulnerabilities they may have to pressure from the open-borders folks.

ARKANSAS Sen. Pryor (D)                        |   FLORIDA Sen. LeMieux (R)

MAINE Sen. Collins (R) and Sen. Snowe (R)          |   MASSACHUSETTS Sen. Brown (R)

NEBRASKA Sen. Nelson (D)                      |   NORTH CAROLINA Sen. Hagan (D)

PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT YOU ARE THANKING THESE SENATORS. They have announced they will vote NO. You are just calling them to let them know that their NO vote will be a popular one.

TURN THESE TWO SENATORS

For some reason, these two Senators who should be NO votes or, at the least, Undeclared were among the few who signed the cloture motion to start debate on the DREAM amnesty.

I feel that both could eventually vote NO on a final cloture vote that would END debate. But for some reason they seem to support STARTING the debate. Let's keep the pressure on them to kill this amnesty with the first cloture vote and not let the debate start in the first place.

MICHIGAN Sen. Stabenow (D)                 |     NORTH DAKOTA Sen. Dorgan (D)

TALKING POINTS: I feel like most of the Senators are ignoring the main reasons the DREAM amnesty should not go any farther in this Lame Duck session:
  • It is a massive amnesty to deal with the symptoms of past out-of-control illegal immigration without a single provision to reduce future illegal immigration.
  • It creates millions more legal workers to compete with the 22 million Americans who want a full-time job but can't find one. And it does nothing to turn off the jobs magnet for future illegal workers.
Don't forget that the Senators you are calling are basically sympathetic to the young illegal-alien adults who were brought here by their parents.

I don't think speaking against the potential amnesty recipients will be helpful in those offices.

Instead, emphasize the points above and how continued illegal immigration harms American victims.

The DREAM Act amnesty is
(a) full of loopholes
(b) wildly susceptible to fraud
(c) does nothing to end the job magnet that allowed the parents to put these "kids" into their position in the first place.

WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN THIS WEEK
Let me first state what is at stake if we let up and the other side peels off just enough Senators to pass the House-passed amnesty.

How will we feel if we don't put our full effort into lobbying Senators this week and then the amnesty narrowly passes just before everybody goes home for the year? Any amnesty that passes the Senate this week will be signed into law. And even though there is no chance an amnesty could pass next year, there also is no chance that an amnesty passed this week could be overturned by next year's Congress (because of the President's certain veto of an overturning).

The mainstream media for the most part are treating the amnesty as something unlikely to be brought back up for a vote in the Senate, primarily because the legislative calendar is so crowded.

But nearly every group on the pro-amnesty side and on the anti-amnesty side believes that Sen. Reid will live up to his promise to hold the vote.

We don't see Reid bringing up DREAM before the tax deal is settled because the only way to add Republicans as YES votes is to get tax deal done first.

The Senate cloture vote to start debate on the tax deal is scheduled for 3 p.m. today (Monday). Perhaps the tax deal could be settled by Wednesday.

Reid has not yet filed cloture on DREAM. There can be no vote on DREAM until two calendar days after cloture has been filed. If he filed today, the vote could be as early as Wednesday.

I KNOW YOU ARE TIRED OF PHONING, PHONING, PHONING.

SO, THANKS SO MUCH FOR PICKING UP THAT PHONE ONCE AGAIN,

Roy Beck, NumbersUSA [Click to send FREE faxes to your Senators]

America Sleeps While Mass Illegal Alien Amnesty Looms

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC): A massive, nation changing, Dream Act amnesty for millions of illegal aliens hangs in the balance needing only one vote in the US Senate that may come any day now. Conservative media conduits like Fox News, Drudge Report, and many talk radio shows are silent on the matter.

"We have a major problem in the fact that America is sound asleep and the new media is not responding to this new amnesty threat yet," said William Gheen President of ALIPAC. "We are asking our activists to start climbing over the walls to rally talk radio and warn hosts that the hour is late, the situation is dire, and only a massive reaction from the American public can stop Dream Amnesty from passing before Christmas."

ALIPAC has helped to defeat the Dream Act Amnesty six times before now, but the historic passage of the bill by a narrow margin in the US House last week bodes ill for the American public. Rasmussen Polling from 2007 shows Americans oppose the Dream Act concept almost 2 to 1!

Most Americans are not aware that the Dream Amnesty is close to passing at any moment. Americans are not aware that millions of them are one vote away from being displaced and replaced in their jobs, colleges, and elections by illegal aliens who may be given the right to work, take college seats, and vote! Most Americans are not aware that there are no enforcement provisions in the Dream Amnesty legislation and instead of the promoted 2-3 million illegal aliens granted Amnesty, ten million or more could qualify. Most Americans are not aware that the bill allows Homeland Security to waive any concerns about who can qualify for Dream Act Amnesty.

"Americans need to start flooding the phone lines of talk radio shows as well as the US Senate to get the ball rolling immediately or everyone will be crying after the fact and asking how this could happen," said William Gheen. "Some conservative news sources are even singing political lullabies to Americans claiming Dream Act Amnesty won't pass the Senate!"

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC activists are being asked to contact every media source and talk radio show. Those sources that are not covering the Dream Act Amnesty, or covering the news in biased fashion, or are lying to the public claiming the bill cannot pass, must lead the push for proper coverage of this situation. The Dream Act Amnesty would radically alter the United States, eventually dis-empowering tens of millions of American voters, students, and workers, and make expectations of future border security and immigration enforcement impossible.

Is the Federal Government Hiring Illegal Aliens?

ARRA News Update (12/8/10): Partisan majority democrats in the US House led by Nancy Pelosi passed their version of the Dream Act last night. This morning, the Senate voted to table the motion to proceed to the Senate version of DREAM Act. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offered the motion to cancel this vote so the Senate could instead vote sometime later on the version that passed the House last night (H.R. 5281). If passed by the Senate, the House version of the DREAM Act would go directly to the president for his signature.

Curtis Coleman
Curtis Coleman, Contributing Author: Anywhere between 300,000 and 2.1 million illegal immigrants will be legalized if the DREAM Act (version 5), scheduled for votes today in the House and Senate, wins the approval of legislators and is signed into law by the President. Never mind, of course, that 15 million Americans who want to work can’t find a job, that all Americans are facing a tsunami of tax increases in less than 23 days, and no provision has been made for funding the government in 2011. The 111th Congress, thankfully gasping for its last breaths, may appropriately go down in history as the most irresponsible and mistrusted Congress in history.

According to POLITICO, “The DREAM Act would provide a path to legalization for immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children, if they go to college or serve in the military for at least two years.

“The latest version, filed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) late Tuesday night, would bar illegal immigrants from receiving in-state college tuition; drops the age of eligibility to 29 from 34; would not grant permanent legal status to anyone for at least 10 years; would restrict eligibility for those who commit certain misdemeanor crimes; and would limit individuals from being able to sponsor family members for U.S. citizenship, among other changes.

“Those who receive conditional legal status under the DREAM Act also would be ineligible for Medicaid, food stamps and other government-funded benefits.”

Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln (D) is a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act.  Senator Mark Pryor (D) said recently he believes that it is appropriate to make military service a path to citizenship for children who were brought into the U.S. by their illegally immigrated parents.  He is, nevertheless, planning to vote against the act, he said, citing his belief that “most Arkansans have a problem with the educational aspects” of the proposed legislation.  Will the “educational aspect” changes in version 5 be enough to change Sen. Pryor’s mind and win his support regardless of the wishes of most Arkansans?

Based on reports of illegal aliens dying in Iraq while fighting as members of the U. S. military, I posed this question a few days ago: “Is the federal government knowingly hiring and paying illegal aliens to serve in the U. S. military?

Reportedly, the military is already actively recruiting young illegal immigrants. How many? “Nobody knows,” says Flavia Jimenez, an immigration policy analyst at the National Council of La Raza. “But what we do know is that recruiters may not be up to speed on everybody’s legal status. … We also know that a significant number of [illegals] have died in Iraq.” The recruitment of illegal immigrants is particularly intense in Los Angeles, where 75 percent of the high school students are Latino. “A lot of our students are undocumented,” says Arlene Inouye, a teacher at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, “and it’s common knowledge that recruiters offer green cards.” Inouye is the coordinator and founder of the Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools (CAMS), a counter-recruitment organization that educates teenagers about deceptive recruiting practices. “The practice is pretty widespread all over the nation,” she says, “especially in California and Texas. … The recruiters tell them, ‘you’ll be helping your family.’”

A little more research has turned up these answers:
According to 10 U.S.C. § 504,
(1) A person may be enlisted in any armed force only if the person is one of the following:
(A) A national of the United States, as defined in section101(a)(22) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C.1101(a)(22)).
(B) An alien who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence, as defined in section 101(a)(20) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20)).
(C) A person described in section 341 of one of the following compacts: [see original text]
(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), the Secretary concerned may authorize the enlistment of a person not described in paragraph (1) if the Secretary determines that such enlistment is vital to the national interest.
And 8 U.S.C. § 1440 states…
Any person who, while an alien or a noncitizen national of the United States, has served honorably in an active-duty status in the military, air, or naval forces of the United States during either World War I or during a period beginning September 1, 1939, and ending December 31, 1946, or during a period beginning June 25, 1950, and ending July 1, 1955, or during a period beginning February 28, 1961, and ending on a date designated by the President by Executive order as of the date of termination of the Vietnam hostilities, or thereafter during any other period which the President by Executive order shall designate as a period in which Armed Forces of the United States are or were engaged in military operations involving armed conflict with a hostile foreign force, and who, if separated from such service, was separated under honorable conditions, may be naturalized…
The federal government already has the authority to naturalize an illegal alien who serves in the military. As The Heritage Foundation points out, “The military component of the DREAM Act is a complete red herring.”

According to The Foundry, “One bill would even grant Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano the power to waive the college and military requirements if the illegal immigrant can demonstrate “compelling circumstances” and the immigrant’s removal would cause a hardship to the them, their spouse, their parents, or their children. When exactly would removal from this country not cause a hardship? What other loopholes are in these bills? As Speaker Pelosi might say: ‘You have to pass this amnesty so that you can find out what is in it.’”

“The real goal of the DREAM Act is to make it even harder for our nation’s law enforcement agencies to enforce any immigration laws,” The Foundry concludes.

Sen. Pryor and Harry Reid claim “the [immigration] system is broken.”  They are wrong.  The system is being ignored by the very people who took an oath to uphold it.  It is abused; so badly abused that the federal government is suing the State of Arizona for attempting to enforce the very laws that the Obama Administration is ignoring – while Americans are dying in the guerilla warfare on our southern borders.

Passage of the DREAM Act will be a nightmare for the United States, sending “a clear message to parents that violating U.S. immigration laws will result in eventual citizenship and access to expensive taxpayer-financed benefits for their kids.”[1]  It is one matter to fail to enforce our nation’s laws.  It is another entirely to reward those who break them.

Here’s the real DREAM Act: Get the federal government out of our faces, out of our pocketbooks and now (in airport security lines) out of our pants.

No More Illegal Alien Waivers

By Michelle Malkin, Human Events: Open-borders radicalism means never having to apologize for absurd self-contradiction. The way illegal alien students on college campuses across the country tell it, America is a cruel, selfish and racist nation that has never given them or their families a break. Yet despite their bottomless grievances, they're not going anywhere.

And despite their gripes about being forced "into the shadows," they've been out in the open protesting at media-driven hunger strikes and flooding the airwaves demanding passage of the so-called DREAM Act. This bailout plan would benefit an estimated 2.1 million illegal aliens at an estimated cost of up to $20 billion.

While votes on various DREAM Act proposals are imminent, the Congressional Budget Office has yet to release any official cost scoring. Viva transparency!

To sow more confusion and obfuscate the debate, Democrats in the Senate have foisted four different versions of the bill on the legislative calendar, which all offer variations on the same amnesty theme: Because they arrived here through "no fault of their own," illegal alien children deserve federal education access and benefits, plus a conditional pass from deportation and a special path toward green cards and U.S. citizenship for themselves and unlimited relatives.

In a last-ditch attempt to win over fence-sitters, DREAM Act sponsors have tinkered with eligibility requirements. But supporters know that the words on bill pages -- which hardly anyone will read before voting -- don't matter. Built into the proposals are broad "public interest" waiver powers for the illegal immigration-friendly Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

University of Texas-San Antonio student Lucy Martinez embodies the entitlement mentality of the DREAM Act agitators: "We have done lobbying, legislative visits, marches, sit-ins. We are tired of it," she complained to the San Antonio Express News. The illegal alien student hunger strike "is similar to what we go through in our everyday lives -- starving without a future." But neither she nor her peers have been denied their elementary, secondary or college educations. Neither she nor her peers face arrest for defiantly announcing their illegal status. And for all the hysterical rhetoric about "starving," the federal government and the federal immigration courts have been overly generous in providing wave after wave of de facto and de jure amnesties allowing tens of millions of illegal border-crossers, visa overstayers and deportation evaders from around the world to live, work and prosper here in subversion of our laws.

Among the major acts of Congress providing mass pardons and citizenship benefits:

-- The 1986 Immigration and Reform Control Act blanket amnesty for an estimated 2.7 million illegal aliens.

-- 1994: The "Section 245(i)" temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens.

-- 1997: Extension of the Section 245(i) amnesty.

-- 1997: The Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act for nearly one million illegal aliens from Central America.

-- 1998: The Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti.

-- 2000: Extension of amnesty for some 400,000 illegal aliens who claimed eligibility under the 1986 act.

-- 2000: The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act, which included a restoration of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty for 900,000 illegal aliens.

This is in addition to hundreds of "private relief bills" sponsored in Congress every year. Most recently, Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced legislation to stay the deportation of illegal alien DREAM Act activist Steve Li -- whose family's asylum claim was rejected and whom a federal immigration court judge ordered deported in 2004.

These illegal alien passes needn't be approved by Congress for the recipients to gain benefits. Mere introduction of the bills buys the deportable aliens time that ordinary, law-abiding citizens can't buy in our court system. The DREAM Act schemers pretend this isn't a zero-sum game. But every time a private illegal alien relief bill passes, the number of available visas for that year is reduced by the number of illegal alien/deportable immigrant recipients granted legal status/deportation relief through the special legislation.

In Austin, Texas, this week, one illegal alien DREAM Act activist blithely argued to me that "it's not like the government would be sending a message that breaking the law is OK." Reality check: The number of illegal aliens in the U.S. has tripled since President Reagan signed the first amnesty in 1986. The total effect of the amnesties was even larger because relatives later joined amnesty recipients, and this number was multiplied by an unknown number of children born to amnesty recipients who then acquired automatic U.S. citizenship.

At a time of nearly double-digit unemployment and drastic higher education cutbacks, a $20 billion special education preference package for up to 2.1 million illegal aliens is not and should not be a priority in Washington. It certainly isn't in the rest of America. And it certainly shouldn't be a priority for federal immigration and homeland security officials, who have a 400,000 deportation fugitives problem, a three-year naturalization application backlog and borders that remain in chaos.

Grownups need to tell the DREAM Act agitators to get in the back of the line.
