Contact Your Senator
The case of Humberto Leal Garcia continues. He is the rapist whose case is objected to on the grounds that he was not afforded the opportunity to consult with the Mexican Consulate.
The administration has filed with the Supreme Court, noting that the Senate has a bill to force the US to recognize a right to notification of foreign governments, if a national has been arrested, that allows them to inject themselves into that process.
The bill is S.1194. It has been twice read and referred to the Judiciary Committee. It's unlikely to be passed, but it would be nice to contact your Senator, just to remind them that you have a STRONG interest in seeing that the bill never makes it out of committee.
