US Court: Alabama can detain illegal immigrants

A federal appeals court has issued a temporary ruling that allows police to detain immigrants that are suspected of being in the country illegally. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued its order Friday after the Justice Department challenged what is considered as the toughest immigration law in the nation. . . . A final decision on the law won't be made for months . . . . State officials say the law is needed to protect the jobs of legal residents, but opponents warn it could lead to discrimination.
