Alabama and D.C. Dealing With Illegal Immigration

Kenneth Wallis, Contributing Author: Out of several million illegal aliens in the US, less than 3,000 were arrested. This raid, called "Operation Cross Check" was a small fraction of even the illegal aliens who have committed violent crimes and looks more like a PR stunt than a real effort to stop illegal immigration. Over 500,000 illegal aliens are fugitive criminals, but that doesn't include unsolved cases. It's also hard to find out the illegal aliens who committed violent crimes before entering the US. The thing to ask yourself is why did you not hear about the crimes committed by these illegal aliens when they happened? How many times did you turn on the local news and see a crime, but never heard of the immigration status of the criminal?
http://www.katv.com/story/15570042/ice-operation-yields-25-arrests-in-arkansas

A story of what we need in Arkansas. It has a leftist with the sob story about rotting vegetables in fields, but fails to mention the percentage of farms that actually use illegal aliens. Illegal aliens are less than 5% of the US workforce and are not a majority in any industry. Businesses will have to either hire legally, or make way for the majority of businesses that do. You may also notice that illegal alien crime was never mentioned. The previous story mentions that among the illegal aliens arrested in Cross Check was a 39 year old man residing in Tuscaloosa, Ala., from Mexico, convicted of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and chemical endangerment of a child and is an at-large criminal alien. Whatever bad side effects from Alabama's immigration reform will be far outweighted by the benefits.

agents near the Rio Grande in Fronton
by Ildefonso Ortiz, The Monitor: U. S. Border Patrol agents seized six assault rifles, one rocket launcher, a grenade launcher, and three packages of what appeared to be C-4 explosives Tuesday near the Rio Grande.

Agents patrolling the river near Fronton spotted a black bag in the brush. Inside, agents found the guns, rocket launcher, grenade launcher and explosives, along with a lower receiver for an assault rifle and 20 ammunition magazines.

The weapons were turned over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives for further investigation.

Obama's Illegal Alien Uncle Has Social Security Card & License

Update Sept 9, 2011: AP Reports that Obama's illegal uncle quietly released from custody Read it for yourself. All we can say - Go Figure! Or better yet, maybe being the President's Uncle does have some special benefits.
--------------
Original Post: 8/30/1l:
Note the last thing I would do is hold a person responsible for something their uncle did. However, it is interesting that Barack Obama has members of his family living in the U.S. who are illegal and no action has been taken to remove them from the U.S. In fact his aunt was in this country illegally for several years and was ordered to be deported. She was then has been allowed to remain in the U.S. after Obama became president.
-------------
ALIPAC quotes a report information from the Boston Hearld:
President Obama’s accused drunken-driving uncle — who was busted after a near collision with a Framingham cop — has had a valid Social Security number for at least 19 years, despite being an illegal immigrant ordered to be deported back to Kenya, the Herald has learned.

. . . 67-year-old uncle, Obama Onyango, has had a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and Social Security number since at least 1992, said Registry of Motor Vehicles spokesman Michael Verseckes. . . .

Onyango was ordered held without bail on a federal immigration warrant after his arraignment Thursday in Framingham District Court. Court papers show he was the subject of a previous deportation order. He was being held in the Plymouth House of Correction last night.

Mike Rogers, a spokesman for Cleveland immigration attorney Margaret Wong, who is representing Onyango, said he “wouldn’t know how” Onyango obtained a Social Security number. Wong is the same lawyer who represented the president’s aunt, Zeituni Onyango, in her fight to win asylum last year. . . .

The bust came just days after another illegal immigrant was charged with running down and killing a 23-year-old man in Milford.

Asked about the issue yesterday, Gov. Deval Patrick said: “You know my stance: Illegal is illegal. We need comprehensive immigration reform.” (<---- ALIPAC NOTE: Deval's comments are code for AMNESTY) . . . [Full Story]

Another Urgent Reason to Pass Federal E-Verify Bill: California Passes Bill Barring Local E-Verify Mandate

NumbersUSA: The California State Senate passed A.B.1236 earlier this week, sending the bill to Gov. Jerry Brown for his signature. The bill would prohibit counties and local municipalities in the state from requiring businesses to use E-Verify, futhering the need for House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith's Legal Workforce Act that would require all business in the U.S. to use E-Verify.

Justice Department Let IEDs ‘Walk’ Into Mexico

Scribe Bluey Reports: Officials from the U.S. federal government have admitted to arresting, then releasing mere hours later, a man who admitted to manufacturing hundreds of improvised explosive devices for a Mexican drug cartel, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The man was arrested last week in Mexico, where authorities reportedly seized materials that could be used to manufacture 500 grenades.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in Phoenix, AZ, declined to charge Jean Baptiste Kingrey, the Wall Street Journal reported, despite the strenuous objections of at least one agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who was leading the ATF’s investigation into the grenades case.

The U.S. Attorney’s office sought to enlist Kingrey as an informant against the La Familia Michoacana cartel. Kingrey “maintained contact with agents for several weeks,” according to the Journal, “then disappeared, the U.S. officials familiar with the case said.”

But while the ATF apparently insisted on charging Kingrey when he was arrested in June, the man was also part of an ATF operation earlier this year that involved allowing him to “walk” explosives over the U.S.-Mexico border as part of the Bureau’s efforts to investigate drug cartels, federal prosecutors claim. ATF agents hoped to track Kingrey’s movements, but apparently lost track of him before he arrived at the border, where Mexican authorities failed to prevent his entry.

The ATF operation appears to have taken place parallel to – and not an official part of – the Bureau’s Fast and Furious gun-running operation. But it bears some striking similarities to the scandalous operation that has come under fire since Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed in the line of duty in December. Guns identified as part of that operation were found at the scene.

Peter Forcelli, the ATF agent who reportedly pushed to charge Kingrey when he was arrested in June, was also involved in Fast and Furious, and has testified before Congress on the botched operation. Forcelli claims that Justice Department officials authorized the Bureau’s attempt in February to track Kingrey across the border. “Agree [with] the course of action as the variables play out,” read one internal email from the U.S. attorney, according to the Journal.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who has been leading the investigation into Fast and Furious from his post as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, issued a brief statement on the revelations regarding the ATF’s February operation, calling the information "disconcerting."

Home » News Labor Dept. Confirms: It Will Ensure Illegal Aliens Get Paid Legal Wages in U.S. Jobs

No matter how you got here or how long you plan to stay, you have certain rights. You have the right to be safe and in a healthy workplace and the right to a legal wage. ~ Labor Sec. Hilda Solis

Labor Sec. Hilda Solis
Fred Lucas, CNSnews.com The U.S. Department of Labor told CNSNews.com in a written statement on Wednesday that it will enforce the federal wage laws on behalf of anyone working in the United States “regardless of their immigration status.” The statement was in response to a written question from CNSNews.com.

The written statement backed up a video statement that Labor Secretary Hilda Solis made to CNSNews.com on Monday in which she indicated that “partnership” agreements she had signed that day with a group of Latin American countries will obligate the U.S. government to protect the working conditions for both “documented and undocumented” migrant laborers here in the United States. (See earlier story.)

The Labor Department’s determination to make U.S. employers treat illegal aliens taking jobs in the United States as if they were U.S citizens or legal immigrants seems to contradict the Immigration and Nationality Act. That act says “employers may hire only persons who may legally work in the United States (i.e., citizens and nationals of the U.S.) and aliens authorized to work in the U.S.” and that the U.S. government “protects U.S. citizens and aliens authorized to accept employment in the U.S. from discrimination in hiring or discharge on the basis of national origin and citizenship status.” . . .

On Monday, Labor Secretary Solis had signed “partnerships” with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador to protect the rights of “migrant” workers in the United States.

During the signing ceremony, Solis said, “No matter how you got here or how long you plan to stay, you have certain rights. You have the right to be safe and in a healthy workplace and the right to a legal wage. We gather here today to strengthen our shared commitment to protect the labor rights of migrant workers in the United States. Unfortunately, due to language barriers and immigration status, migrant workers can be those that are most vulnerably abused.”

After the signing ceremony, CNSNews.com asked Solis: “Both documented and undocumented workers will be protected under U.S. labor laws?” . . .

Before signing the “partnerships” with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador on Monday, Solis had already signed similar partnerships to with the governments of Mexico, Nicaragua and Guatemala to protect migrant workers in the U.S. from those countries. Solis indicated on Monday that she was also “pursuing accords with governments from South East Asia and others in the Caribbean.” . . . [Full Story]

Gov’t Audit: Illegal Immigrants Received $4.2 Billion in Tax Credits Last Year

H/T Cyndi Kuhlman who shared link to this article on the Conservative Voices Group on FaceBook
-------------
by Madeleine Morgenstern, TheBlaze: Illegal immigrants not authorized to work in the United States received $4.2 billion in tax credits from the IRS last year, almost quadruple the amount five years ago, a government audit found.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) found an increasing number of illegals are claiming a refundable tax credit meant for working families when they file their taxes. Those who claim the credit either reduce what they owe or receive refunds.

According to TIGTA, which independently oversees the IRS, this essentially provides a huge incentive for illegals to come, live and work in the U.S.:
Many individuals who are not authorized to work in the United States, and thus not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) for employment, earn income in the United States.  The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides such individuals with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to facilitate their filing of tax returns.  Although the law prohibits aliens residing without authorization in the United States from receiving most Federal public benefits, an increasing number of these individuals are filing tax returns claiming the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), a refundable tax credit intended for working families.  The payment of Federal funds through this tax benefit appears to provide an additional incentive for aliens to enter, reside, and work in the United States without authorization, which contradicts Federal law and policy to remove such incentives.
The $4.2 billion amount is a dramatic increase from $924 million in 2005. According to the audit, 72 percent of people who used a taxpayer identification number to file taxes last year claimed the child tax credit, up from 51 percent in 2005. Comparatively, just 14 percent of those who filed regular tax returns last year claimed the credit.

According to the Washington Post, the explosion in claims is due in part to tax law changes that reduced the number of children required to claim the credit. Additionally, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 also made the refund easier to get.

In response to the report, the IRS agreed to consult with the Treasury Department but said it doesn’t have the authority to stop the claims, pointing out the law doesn’t require the taxpayer or their claimant child have a Social Security number to receive the credit. Legislative changes would be required for any real change.
