POLL: Church Members Care About Low-Paid Workers & Jobless (but Church Leaders Back Businesses)

by Roy Beck, NumbersUSA: Perhaps the most striking results of a massive new Zogby poll show that while their religious leaders mouth the arguments of the Chamber of Commerce for more cheap foreign labor, the vast majority of church and synagogue members show a strong preference for low-wage and jobless Americans.

Most of the largest Christian and Jewish organizations are set next week to begin lobbying Congress vigorously to increase the flow of foreign workers -- especially unskilled ones -- into the U.S. But Zogby found almost no support among the people in the pews for importing more workers.
  • Only 12% of Catholics agree with their bishops that the U.S. needs more foreign workers.
  • Only 10% of mainline Protestants agree with the largest denominations that there aren't enough Americans to fill U.S. jobs.
  • Only 7% of born-again Protestants agree with the National Association of Evangelicals that the U.S. doesn't import enough foreign workers.
  • Only 16% of Jews agree with Jewish group lobbyists that the U.S. needs to give out more foreign work permits.
What Zogby did in its poll of more than 40,000 Americans is ask which opinion best reflected their view about jobs that require relatively little education.
The vast majority of Christians and Jews chose the second opinion: "There are plenty of Americans already here to do these jobs; if employers can't find workers they should pay more and treat workers better."

The tiny percentages listed in the bullet points above chose the first opinion: "We need to allow more immigrants into the country to fill these jobs because there aren't enough Americans willing or able to do them."

This opinion (roundly rejected by Christians and Jews but most strongly argued by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce) is the one chosen by most of the national religious leaders. This is strange since most of these leaders usually are known for leaning liberal and in favor of workers.

How refreshing, though, to find out that the tens of millions of Americans who attend the services of those religions and provide the offerings to pay the salaries of those pro-labor-importation religious leaders have not lost their moral bearings. The members do not seem to be influenced in any way by the teachings of their national religious leaders that we have a labor shortage in this country.

Only somebody blinded by ideology could during the current Jobs Depression claim that we have a labor shortage. . . . [Read Full Article]

15 Million Americans Are Out Of Work. So Why Is Our Government Still Bringing In 1.5 Million Foreign Workers A Year?

It doesn't make sense. 15 million Americans can't find a job and our government is still allowing 1.5 million foreign workers a year to enter this country and take American jobs. And that's not counting the illegal workers taking jobs. With Americans losing their houses and struggling to put food on the table, how can we continue giving jobs away? Does anyone really believe there's a labor shortage? And yes, Americans will do "those jobs." [Source Info: Coalition for American Workers]

Abandoning Black Poor, Pres. Obama Ignores Easiest & Biggest Solution

by Roy Beck, NumbersUSA: Pres. Obama is under attack from some Black leaders for allowing Black poverty and unemployment to remain agonizingly high. Blinded by the open-borders ideology that afflicts most of the nation's political and media elite, Mr. Obama can't see that he really could deflect the criticism and stick with his stated principles merely by being willing to reduce the importation of foreign workers.
President Barack Obama deflected criticism Monday that he has not been attentive enough to the African-American community, telling American Urban Radio Networks that he was unconcerned to see that kind of message coming from former supporters such as actor Danny Glover.

"Is there grumbling?" he asked rhetorically. "Of course, there's grumbling, because we just went through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression."
"We were some of the folks who were most affected by predatory lending. There's a long history of us being the last hired and the first fired. As I said on health care, we're the ones who are in the worst position to absorb companies deciding to drop their health care plans,” Obama said. “So, should people be satisfied? Absolutely not. But let's take a look at what I've done." -- "POTUS's Outlook On Black America" by Carol E. Lee, Politico, 21DEC09
hat he hasn't done is reduce horrible joblessness among Black Americans whose U-3 unemployment rate is 50% higher than for the rest of Americans.

There are limits to what a President can do about such calamities. But one thing Mr. Obama does not have to do is allow his Administration to give away 125,000 new work permits each month to new foreign workers.

Halting all new work permits would not solve unemployment problems for Blacks or the rest of America, but it would mean moving  hundreds of thousands more jobless Americans into jobs over the next year.

Because foreign workers are disproportionately in competition with Black Americans, reducing immigration would disproportionately help Black Americans, something Mr. Obama said he didn't think he could do.
Obama repeatedly used the pronoun "we" in discussing America's black community, but insisted that he shouldn't be expected to target policies exclusively to African-Americans.
"The only thing I cannot do is, by law I can't pass laws that say I'm just helping black folks," Obama said. "I'm the president of the entire United States. What I can do is make sure that I am passing laws that help all people, particularly those who are most vulnerable and most in need. That, in turn, is going to help lift up the African-American community." -- Politico
The great thing about the immigration solution is that anything that helps fight the jobs disaster among Black citizens will also end up helping Americans of all races and ethnicities.

Pres. Obama has repeatedly said he will consider any reasonable idea to put more Americans back to work. His refusal to consider reducing immigration shows that he is not really serious.  It shows that he has been infected with radical open borders ideology that causes him to inflict great political harm on himself and on the people he claims to care so much about -- all unemployed Americans, including the most victimized Black Americans.

But until more Black leaders specifically point out that Mr. Obama is refusing to use the immigration solution to the problem, it is unlikely that the President will move to truly respond to the pain in too many of the Black communities of this nation.

America’s Most Forgotten – Drunk Illegal Alien Causes Christmas Eve Crash; Three Family Members Die

Family Security Matters: America’s Most Forgotten is dedicated to all of the innocent people and their families who have been victimized by illegal aliens as a result of the refusal of our elected officials to enforce United Statesimmigration law and to secure our borders. Americans remain unprotected from this unwanted invasion of unidentified people from across the world. No region of the country has been spared and the citizens presented come from all walks of life.

On December 23, 2006, Gary Ceran played a convincing Bob Cratchit, the father of Tiny Tim, in a local theater production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Caleb Ceran, 12 years old, and Clarissa Ceran, 17 years old, performed alongside their father as two of his fictional children. They shared his interest in the performing arts. In attendance at the Hale Center Theater production were the rest of the family, wife Cheryl and their two children, Ian, 15, and Julianna, 7.

After the performance, the Ceran family stopped at Walmart for some last-minute Christmas shopping, and then drove home to Cedar Hills, Utah, to celebrate Christmas. At around 2:30 a.m. on December 24th, Carlos Prieto, an illegal alien, intoxicated and driving without a license, ran a red light and broadsided the Ceran vehicle. Cheryl and Ian were killed instantly. Their littlest child, Julianna, died from her injuries after being transported by helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center. The rest of the family suffered injuries requiring hospitalization. . . .

Carlos Preito, a Mexican national who was uninjured in the crash, had a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit in Utah. Prieto had two prior arrests for drunk driving and a 2004 arrest for speeding and driving without a license. His immigration status went unchecked in all cases until he murdered innocent Americans. Carlos Prieto ignored the laws of the United States of America when he illegally crossed our border and defied state laws against drinking and driving as well.

Preito pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular homicide. He was sentenced to five years for each of the three counts. Two of the five year sentences will run simultaneously. Preito will serve 10 years in prison, less than the maximum 15-year sentence. He will then be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

One Christmas Eve, 2006, half of the Ceran family was killed in a drunk driving incident by an unchecked illegal immigrant because our federal government meets the demands of the special interest groups to keep our borders open and our immigration laws unenforced. The federal government continues to behave as though the lives of innocent Americans are of no consequence as tragedies such as this continue to mount.

Americans should not have to live in fear in their own neighborhoods. Enforcement legislation, passed by a few states, has led illegal aliens to leave because the magnets of jobs and taxpayer benefits have been removed. This is a dirty little secret that elected officials in Washington on both sides of the aisle do not want you to know.

Are you concerned about this epidemic of death at the hands of illegal aliens? Tell your elected officials what you think.

Rep. Duncan Hunter: No Amnesty

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER, Jr. In light of immigration reform legislation introduced today by Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) that provides citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants, Congressman Duncan Hunter reaffirmed his opposition to any comprehensive reform effort that grants amnesty or fails to put border security first. On Wednesday, Congressman Hunter will be joined by a bipartisan group of lawmakers to introduce the BRIDGE resolution – a legislative initiative that outlines several guiding principles for comprehensive immigration reform.

"At the same time our Southern land border is overrun with violence and other unlawful activity, there are some Democrats in Congress who want to compound the problems attributable to our porous borders and current immigration policies.

“The security threat and costs associated with illegal immigration are far too serious to ignore. The American people expect our borders to be secure and existing immigration laws to be consistently enforced throughout our communities and the workplace.

“Not only is the Gutierrez legislation weak on enforcement, failing to implement the necessary security elements at our borders or making workplace verification a priority, it grants amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. This proposal misses the mark in every way possible.” . . . (more)

Illegal Alien Murders Teen for Speaking English in America!

By Brent Batten, Naples News: But no sooner than does a series of articles about the Collier County Sheriff’s Office program to deport troublesome illegal aliens conclude than an illegal alien is in the headlines, and not in a good way.

Mauricio Escalante. The 33-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested Saturday for stabbing to death a 17-year-old on the streets of Immokalee. The teenager’s affront that set off the fatal confrontation — daring to speak English in America.

According to Sheriff’s Office reports, around 3 a.m. Saturday Charlie Guzman and some friends gathered at the laundry of an apartment complex on Colorado Avenue. Three others, including Escalante, were already there and the two groups began talking until a dispute erupted over the victim’s group speaking English, not Spanish.

Escalante went to a nearby apartment, got a knife, and fatally stabbed Guzman, according to reports. So much for the notion that illegal immigrants are universally a hard-working, law abiding set committed to doing the jobs Americans won’t do, all while trying to assimilate.

Worst Amnesty Bill Ever

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), has introduced a bill that is much, much more radical than any Amnesty bill ever introduced. The bill is H.R. 4321, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009. Rep. Solomon Ortiz (D-Texas) is the bill's official sponsor.Seniors with felonies would qualify! Illegal Aliens could NOT be arrested in most public places. Illegals with U.S.-born children will always be exempt from deportation.

Super-condensed summary of the two-page bill:
  • The bill outlaws all state and local laws against illegal immigration. It overthrows laws like those in Arizona, Oklahoma, and Georgia that punish companies for hiring illegal aliens.

  • It eliminates the 287(g) program in which local law enforcement helps identify and detect illegal aliens for the feds.

  • Job verification would no longer be possible, because this bill would ELIMINATE E-Verify! All our gains in verification over the last decade would be destroyed if this bill were to become law.

  • All Illegal Aliens in U.S. as of day-before-yesterday will be given immediate Amnesty.

  • The only ones not given the Amnesty are those who've committed a "serious crime." BUT, if the criminal is above 65 years old, no problem--they get the amnesty. (New industry--older criminals smuggled into U.S. to escape punishment in home countries?)

  • Importation of foreign-workers or permanent immigrants will be GREATLY increased.

    Amnesty Alert

by Kenneth Wallis, Little Rock Examiner: While citizens are fighting to stop Reid/Pelosi Care from passing, the left has now decided to introduce an amnesty for illegals bill, aka Comprehensive Immigration Reform. The article states that the bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., yesterday is too pro-illegal alien to pass, but that there will be a "more moderate" immigration reform bill coming early next year by Senators Chuck Schumer, and Lindsey Graham. This is a tactic used by the left to where the choice is either evil or really evil. There will probably be a demand that the Schumer/Graham Amnesty be passed immediately w/out being read, it will probably be over 1,000 pages, and it will probably be written mainly behind closed doors.

The left will also ignore the ideas of The Sensenbrenner Bill (HR4437), just like they are ignoring The Patient's Choice Act of 2009 (HR2520/S1099) They will then try to justify any bad parts of their amnesty by pretending that only the Gutierrez Amnesty or the Schumer/Graham Amnesty will be the only way to "reform" our broken immigration system. Just like the health care battle, we must not accept the premises that they create. The story about the Gutierrez Amnesty is at ALIPAC.

Mexican ambassador says cartels' risk to U.S. not just a border issue

The Dallas Morning News - MEXICO CITY – Mexico is facing a strong and growing threat from transnational criminal organizations, leaving the U.S. little choice but to assist its southern neighbor or risk an increasingly grave threat to its own security, U.S. Ambassador Carlos Pascual said Friday.

In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Pascual warned that the security implications for the U.S. go far beyond its cities bordering Mexico.
"The big challenge here isn't just the challenge of the U.S. border cities, but the linkages between hundreds of cities across the United States and Mexican cartels, and that is what we have to interrupt and block," he said.

"So the more we work with Mexico to combat the infiltration of organized crime – drug-trafficking organizations here [in Mexico] – the more it will help us in our efforts in the United States."

Those cities include Dallas, which has emerged as a strategic hub for not just the notorious paramilitary group known as the Zetas, but also for the deadly and fast-expanding cartel known as La Familia, a drug-trafficking organization and methamphetamine supplier based in the central Mexican state of Michoacán.

In October, at least 84 people were arrested in the Dallas area, nearly a third of the 300 arrested nationwide under Operation Coronado, which targeted La Familia operations in the United States. [Read More]

POLL: Continued High Immigration Keeps Most Young Immigrant-Stock Americans Not Thinking Of Themselves Primarily As Americans

By Roy Beck, NumbersUSA:  A big poll of Americans of Latin American background finds that most first and second generations don't think of themselves first as Americans.

But they don't think of themselves as Latinos or Hispanics either. They are most likely -- even immigrants' kids born in the U.S. -- to consider themselves Mexicans, Salvadorans, Peruvians, Bolivians, etc. -- identifying with their family's home country, rather than the country in which they live or with the U.S. minority group known as Latino or Hispanic.
The report released Friday by the Pew Hispanic Center includes detailed analysis of government data on Hispanics ages 16 to 25 -- a generation often referred to as "millennials" -- as well as a survey of more than 2,000 respondents.

"If you want to understand what America will be like in the 21st century, you need to have an understanding of how today's young Latinos, most of whom are not immigrants, are growing up," said Paul Taylor, executive director of the Pew Hispanic Center.

Hispanics already make up one out of five school-age children and one out of four newborns in the nation, Taylor said. -- Washington Post, 12DEC09
Only about a quarter of the millenials born abroad consider themselves first as an American of this country.
. . . even among the second generation (born in the U.S.) only 41 percent said that "American" was the first term they generally use to describe themselves. -- Washington Post
Not even a quarter of the first generation consider themselves Hispanic or Latino. The majority retain their identity with their home country in Latin America.
And of the second generation of U.S.-born . . .
Twenty-one percent preferred the terms "Hispanic" or "Latino," while one-third referred to their family's country of origin, calling themselves "Mexican" or "Salvadoran," for instance. -- Washington Post
The Pew study finds that young Hispanics don't hear a lot of talk from their parents about pride in the United States, compared with their pride in their home countries.
42 percent of Hispanic millennials surveyed said their parents have often spoken to them of pride in their family's country of origin, compared with 29 percent whose parents spoke of their pride in being American. Similarly, 60 percent said their parents encouraged them to speak Spanish, compared with 22 percent whose parents stressed the need to speak English. -- Washington Post
The Post and Pew wanted to make sure that we don't read anything negative into the poll results, and that is where they get way off track:
The report's authors also cautioned against concluding that today's Hispanic immigrants are assimilating at a slower rate than earlier immigrants. Foreign-language newspapers and theater proliferated in immigrant communities during the early 1900s and "no one ever did a poll asking people if they considered themselves American first," Taylor said. -- Washington Post
This is the most typical fatal error of logic made by newspaper people and academics.

First, I agree that the Germans, for example, who absolutely flooded cities across America a hundred years ago, were very similar to today's Latin Americans in creating churches, schools, news media, political blocs, etc. in their own language and culture while failing to assimilate well.

Lack of assimilation was true for nearly all immigrant groups during the First Great Wave of Immigration (1880-1914).

Most Americans don't understand that because they hear so much about how well that Great Wave of Europeans assimilated. What most Americans, most journalists and most think tankers and scholars fail to notice is that the assimilation happened in earnest AFTER immigration numbers were reduced by half to three-quarters.

I DON'T BLAME THE LATIN AMERICAN IMMIGRANTS FOR LACK OF IDENTIFICATION WITH U.S. I told a California reporter asking about this poll that I do not blame the Latin American "millennials" for their lack of identification with the U.S. and their signs of lack of assimilation.

I don't blame their parents either. I blame Congress!

The Latin American immigrants are acting like almost all immigrants do in any country that allows giant waves of a particular ethnicity, culture or national origin over a sustained period of time. It is very, very difficult to truly assimilate and identify with the country of your residence when that country continues to pour more giant waves of your home countrymen into your communities.
The Germans, Italians, Balkans, etc. couldn't truly assimilate a century ago until Congress dramatically reduced the flow of new immigration from their countries.
That is going to be even more true today when immigrants have constant access to their old language and culture through TV networks, other entertainment and cheap, safe, easy transportation back and forth to their old countries.

The fact that most of these young immigrant-stock members of our society don't identify more strongly as fellow Americans is cause for some alarm. It was cause for great alarm a century ago. But shortly after a century ago, Congress passed laws to bring immigration numbers back down to a constructive level.

Until Congress does the same thing again, I'm afraid we are going to see a larger and larger proportion of our population failing to fully identify with our country. ROY BECK is Founder & CEO of NumbersUSA

Immigration Officials Arrest 300 in California

The New York Times - Nearly 300 illegal immigrants who had committed serious crimes were deported or detained this week by federal agents in a demonstration of what immigration officials pledged was a new resolve to zero in on the most egregious lawbreakers. . . . More than 80 percent had convictions for serious or violent crimes and at least 100 have been removed from the country, with the others awaiting deportation proceedings. . . . Of the 286 people arrested, 63 had previously been deported. At least 17 face prosecution for re-entering the country without proper documents. . . . The deportees represented 31 countries, though the majority, 207, were from Mexico. [Read More]
