Mississippi House Passes Tough Immigration Bill

Fox News reports:
A bill modeled after Alabama's tough immigration law moved through Mississippi's House on Friday, although the legislation's sponsor said the language that could get it tied up in a federal court was removed.

The House Judiciary B Committee voted 15-6 to pass House Bill 488, which now goes to the House Education Committee. It would then go to the full chamber. . . .

SCOTUS: Filing False Tax Return Is A Deportable Offense

One Old Vet reports:

Opinion recap: Court holds that filing false tax return is a deportable offense
Kevin Russell Contributor: Yesterday, the Court issued its decision in Kawashima v. Holder, holding that filing a false tax return is grounds for deportation.

The petitioners in the case, Mr. and Mrs. Kawashima, had been lawful permanent residents of the United States since 1984. In 1997, Mr. Kawashima was convicted of filing, and his wife was convicted of helping him to file, a false corporate tax return that understated their income and therefore deprived the government of owed tax revenue – violations of Section 7206 of the tax code.

A provision of immigration law allows the government to deport anyone who is convicted of an “aggravated felony.” Originally, the term was defined narrowly to include crimes like murder and drug trafficking. But over time, Congress has expanded the definition, so that it now includes any offense that “(i) involves fraud or deceit in which the loss to the victim or victims exceeds $10,000; or (ii) is described in section 7201 of title 26 (relating to tax evasion) in which the revenue loss to the government exceeds $10,000.” [Full Story]

SCOTUS decision begs the questions: What constitutes "filing a false tax return?" What about using false social security numbers, false names, false addresses? What about submitting false birth certificates to secure a social security number? All these situations have been done been done by illegal aliens. After breaking the law by illegally entering the United States, illegal aliens continue to break other laws in order to reside in the U.S., to work (take jobs from U.S. citizens) in the United States and to secure government benefits including medical and eduction for their illegal family members.

Immigration enforcement program to be shut down

By Alan Gomez, USA Today: WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is starting to shut down a program that deputized local police officers to act as immigration agents. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have trained local officers around the country to act as their agencies' immigration officers. Working either in jails or in the field, the officers can check the immigration status of suspects and place immigration holds on them.

The program, known as 287(g), reached its peak under President George W. Bush, when 60 local agencies signed contracts with ICE to implement it. But that trend slowed significantly under President Obama— only eight agencies have signed up since he took office, and none has done so since August 2010.

Now, in their proposed budget for the upcoming year, Department of Homeland Security officials say they will not sign new contracts for 287(g) officers working in the field and will terminate the "least productive" of those agreements — saving an estimated $17 million. . . .

DHS said officials instead will focus on expanding Secure Communities, a program that checks the fingerprints of all people booked into local jails against federal immigration databases. The followup work in those cases is done by ICE agents, not local police. . . . [Read Full Story]

L.A. Chief of police wants to give illegals driver's licenses

This 'police chief' get the moron of the day award, maybe for the year. Just have to wait and see on that. Between this idiot and Sheriff Baca, they would give the entire state of California over to illegal aliens if they could. Darn, I forgot, illegal aliens already have wrecked the state of Falikornia.

What a good idea! Let's give illegal aliens a 'special' driver's license. The vast majority of illegals who drive have no insurance and if they are required to furnish proof of insurance, that 'proof' can be conjured up just like other fake documents. It does not matter what requirements they try to put in place to qualify for one these licenses. This is a perfect example of why California is the wreck of state that it is. This will make little or difference is stopping illegal aliens from driving without a license.

Hey 'Chief' Black, how about enforcing the laws that have been on the Federal books since the 1940's that are there to prosecute illegal aliens? How about prosecuting illegal aliens to the fullest extent of the law? How about deporting the ENTIRE family so none of them are a drain on our social services which many LEGAL Americans need in this economy that the obama administration tells us is improving all the time.

How about DOING your job.and ensuring that there are not anymore illegal immigrants in your city and state. These illegal aliens have broken the law and this is what you should be concerned with.

Los Angeles Police Chief Wants Driver's Licenses for Undocumented Immigrants

Los Angeles, Calif. – The Los Angeles police chief favors allowing undocumented immigrants to drive because, he says, it will make the roads safer for everyone.

The chief, Charlie Beck, said he does not necessarily support issuing them standard driver’s licenses, but perhaps a special document that would show their identity, and provide proof that they have the skills to drive legally in the state.

Beck, who expressed his views in an interview Wednesday with the Los Angeles Times, argued that the state has failed to reduce the number of undocumented immigrants driving without a license.

"The reality is that all the things that we've done — 'we' being the state of California — over the last 14, 16 years have not reduced the problem one iota, haven't reduced undocumented aliens driving without licenses,” Beck said.

“So we have to look at what we're doing. When something doesn't work over and over and over again, my view is that you should reexamine it to see if there is another way that makes more sense."

The chief concern is safety on the road by forcing all drivers to take the rigorous testing to get a license, and the ability of police to identify the people they encounter, Beck said.

"Why wouldn't you want to put people through a rigorous testing process? Why wouldn't you want to better identify people who are going to be here?" Beck told the Times. "It doesn't make any sense to me. And we could increase safety on the roads. When you make things illegal you cause a lot of other things by chain reaction."

One type of crime Beck believes would decrease is hit-and-run accidents, because undocumented immigrant drivers wouldn't have to fear being caught without a license at the scene, he said.

In recent months, Beck has pushed for changes to the LAPD's vehicle impound rules, which would ease fines faced by unlicensed drivers who have their cars towed and impounded.

Police commissioners were due to vote on the policy last week, but the Legislative Counsel Bureau, which advises state legislators, said local government doesn't have the authority to change the policy.

Currently, those caught driving without a valid license, including those who have had their licenses suspended or revoked, can have their cars impounded for up to 30 days.

Towing and impound charges often top $1,000, and advocates for the poor and immigrants say the punishment outweighs the wrong.< The vote was rescheduled for Feb. 28. Beck said licenses issued to undocumented immigrants should be different than regular ones, such as a provisional license or a non-resident license. Source is here.

National Support From ALIPAC For Alabama And Fremont Nebraska Illegal Immigration Laws

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is offering national support to the backers of Alabama's new illegal immigration control legislation as well as the 75% of Fremon Nebraska's municipal ordinance that was cleared by the courts this week.

ALIPAC's extensive national activist network is now deployed sharing the news with state lawmakers across America that Alabama's unemployment rate has dropped quickly in response to the peaceful departure of illegal immigrants in response to state level immigration law enforcement.

ALIPAC activists are busy rallying city and town council members nationwide to implement laws similar to Fremont Nebraska ordinance. Recent court rulings have cleared the way for towns like Farmers Branch Texas, Hazelton Pennsylvania and many others to do just that.

"We need American defenders fighting on every level right now!" said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "We are fighting against the illegal immigration invasion of America in our towns, in our states, in Washington, DC and in the campaigns and elections. Americans need every job and every taxpayer resource we can reclaim from illegal aliens."

ALIPAC activists are delivering an article written by Neil Munro published in the Daily Caller on February 20, 2012 to state lawmakers in all 50 states titled "Alabama’s immigration reform again cuts unemployment".

“In the last three months alone, we’ve seen an unprecedented drop of 1.7 percentage points,” noted Alabama Republican Gov. Robert Bentley in a Jan. 20 statement. The drop began after a bipartisan 2011 law toughened the state’s immigration enforcement policies. The reform prompted many low-skilled illegal immigrants to leave the state, and was slammed by advocates for illegal immigrants, including Tom Perez, the chief of the Justice Department’s civil regulation division.

"We expect the illegal aliens to leave any state or town where they hear local Americans will be enforcing the popularly supported immigration laws duly passed by our constitutionally empowered Congress," said William Gheen. "Our activists are taking steps to make sure every state and town lawmaker knows it is incumbent upon them to protect American citizens from the dire consequences of invasion when the federal government fails in its most basic responsibility to enforce Article 4 of the US Constitution."

Illegals Breaking Into Cop Cars Americans Won't Break Into!

Kenneth Wallis: Illegal aliens are responsible for the majority of narcotics in this country, along with the crime that comes with it. It's a good thing this Mexican Ice Gang didn't run into Eric Holder's Fast and Furious Program! There are 3 of the 4 caught in this gang that are on hold for Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) for immigration violations.  Story follows:

KARK 4 News: Gun Stolen from Benton Police Car Found in Jacksonville, 4 Arrested
An investigation into the theft of guns from a Benton police car that was parked in a Jacksonville neighborhood last week has led to four arrests. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office says two of the suspects are directly tied to one of the stolen police guns. Rigoberto Zelaya and Toijean Zelaya, both 27, are husband and wife. . . .

The Zelayas are both charged with theft by receiving (firearm), possession of marijuana, possession of meth, simultaneous possession of drugs and guns, and maintaining a drug house. Mrs. Zelaya, who was booked into the Pulaski County Jail under the last name of Avila, has an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Zelaya was also placed on hold for Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) for immigration violations.

Two other people have been arrested along with the Zelayas; Carlos Fernandez, 35, (also known as Charlie Brown) and Elmer Augusto, 25. Police say Fernandez was in possession of a Glock 27 (.40-caliber) reported stolen in Little Rock.
He is also charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearm, theft by receiving (firearm) and possession of marijuana. Augusto is charged with fleeing and driving without a license. Augusto and Fernandez were also placed on hold for Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) for immigration violations. . . .

Protect Our Bloggers' Voices And Our Borders

ARRA News Service - Protect Your Voice: The Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity called on CPAC 2012 attendees to sign a petition that aims to grant bloggers the same legal protection journalists have. According to American Journalism Review's 2009 analysis there were 30 percent less statehouse reporters then compared to 2003. While their grant has not been renewed to do the study since then, any reporter can attest to the continued cutbacks by walking into a newsroom.

Fortunately, a new wave of energized reporters has been filling those vacancies out of passion - many unpaid. These bloggers are dedicated to informing their citizenry of its elected officials’ actions. They are addressing the threat to democracy.

Because of this, we believe they deserve the same protections as reporters in the court room. We aim to protect the bloggers that are reporting on acts of government as meticulously and honestly as the journalist sitting next to him or her at the press conference. Citizen Journalists and Bloggers should not be penalized for providing a valuable service to our country. Citizen Journalists and Bloggers in every state deserve to be included in the state’s shield laws and granted Freedom of the Press rights.

Times have changed and it’s time for the law to adjust. Go to to show your some post Valentine Day love for bloggers .

Obama Appoints Illegal Alien Czar

"Illegal Immigrants" - a Euphemism for Illegal Aliens

by Rachel Pulaski at GatwayPundit: The Obama Administration has announced an “official advocate” for illegal immigrants.  His duties will include listening to the concerns the illegals have with our law enforcement policies.

The Washington Times reported:
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the advocate will “serve as a point of contact for individuals, including those in immigration proceedings, NGOs and other community and advocacy groups, who have concerns, questions, recommendations or other issues they would like to raise.” The agency — part of the Homeland Security Department — said Andrew Lorenz-Strait will be the first advocate. But Rep. Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said that meant elevating the concerns of illegal immigrants. “It’s outrageous that the Obama administration has appointed a taxpayer-funded activist for illegal and criminal immigrants who are detained or ordered deported. The administration all too often acts more like a lobbying firm for illegal immigrants than as an advocate for the American people,” Mr. Smith, Texas Republican, said. Mr. Smith said that when Congress created the Homeland Security Department, it specifically created an advocate’s position for those in the legal immigration process, but it declined to create one for illegal immigrants, who the courts have regularly ruled are not entitled to the same protections as citizens and legal residents.
This Administration may have a record number of deportations but they have issued a record number of “U” Visas to illegal immigrants. These visas provide illegals a path to legal and permanent residency. U Visa holders also receive all benefits and protections normally available to refugees (including Refugee Cash and Medical Assistance, Federally-Funded Public Benefits, and Individual Development Accounts).

When Activism Extinguishes Public Conversation

By Dominique Peridans, Center for Immigration Studies The Washington Post recently offered a profile of immigration activist Jaime Contreras, who arrived illegally in the United States in 1988 at age 13, and currently chairs the Capital Area District of 32BJ, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union. It is actually difficult to understand the purpose of such a profile, especially since there is nothing specifically new on the horizon regarding the focus of Mr. Contreras’ activism. It is perhaps intended to be a(nother) touching story on bravery – the activism equivalent of a tale of “rags-to-riches”. Wait, there is one specific current issue mentioned in the article, something that is to occur during the course of this year. Contreras “is leading efforts this year in Maryland to win approval, in a referendum, of the state’s version of a Dream Act, which would grant in-state college tuition discounts to undocumented immigrants.” [Read Full Story]

Obama expands foreign worker visas despite Jennifer's plea

ARRA News Service -
Chris Chmielenski, NumbersUSA: There's been much talk about Jennifer Wedel's question to Pres. Obama during an online Town Hall event earlier this week. But unfortunately, most of the focus has been on Jennifer's particular situation rather than the President's call for more foreign workers while 22 million Americans can't find a full-time job.

Yes, the President offered to disseminate Jennifer's husband's resume (he's an unemployed engineer), but at the same time, he's turning his back on the rest of unemployed Americans by continuing to import 125,000 new foreign workers each month.

And to make matters worse, a day after the President's Town Hall, his Administration announced a plan to issue more work visas without Congressional approval.

In two weeks (Feb. 20-24), the House will break for a district work week. While Members are back in their home districts and states, all 535 Members of the House and Senate should be confronted the same way Jennifer Wedel confronted Pres. Obama. If you have a relative, friend, or neighbor who has lost a job during the jobs recession, please tell your story to your Members of Congress and ask them why the government continues to bring in foreign workers with high unemployment.

Former DEA Chief: Hezbollah Eyeing Southwest Border, . . .

. . .‘Hell to Pay in the Not Too Distant Future’

Michael Braun, former Chief of Operations at the Drug Enforcement Agency, testified at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Feb. 2, 2012 that Iran's influence in the Western Hemisphere reaches all the way to the U.S. border with Mexico. ( Starr)
by Penny Starr, – The Iranian-supported Shi’ite terrorist group Hezbollah has spread its influence all the way to the U.S. border with Mexico, a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Iran’s influence in the Western Hemisphere heard on Thursday.

Michael Braun, a former chief of operations at the Drug Enforcement Agency, said Hezbollah had developed relationships with the powerful Mexican drug cartels to “move their agenda forward.” He cited a plot, recently uncovered by the DEA, involving an Iranian operative in Mexico allegedly planning to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington, D.C.

“Hezbollah are absolute masters at forming close relationships with existing organized crime groups around the world that helps them facilitate what they need to do to move their agendas forward,” Braun told following the hearing. “And if anyone thinks for a moment that they don’t have their eye on the southwest border and all of our country, then they couldn’t be more wrong.”

In his prepared remarks Braun, who also served as interim director of the Department of Justice’s Drug Intelligence Fusion Center, said Hezbollah and other terrorist groups understand that the Mexican cartels are already operating successfully inside the United States.

“If anyone thinks for one moment that these terrorist organizations do not understand that the Mexican drug trafficking cartels now dominate drug trafficking in our country – reportedly in more than 250 cities – than they are very stupid or very naive,” he said.

“And these groups most assuredly recognize the strategic value of exploiting that activity, and all that has been built to support it, for moving their vision forward in this part of the world.”

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the committee, said on Feb. 2, 2012, that Iran has changed it tactics to include planning attacks on the United States. ( Starr)

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), chairwoman of the committee, cited Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force and its connections to the Zeta drug cartel in the foiled assassination attempt on U.S. soil.

She asked Braun whether he believed Iran had “strategic interests” in Central America and the southwest border.

Braun said Quds Force and Hezbollah work “very, very hard” to develop relationships with criminal groups that already have in place systems for illegal activities, including drug and human trafficking, money laundering and forged document operations.

“And by developing those relations it provides them with the ability to operate far from home in our neighborhood and – as I said earlier – on our doorstep,” he replied.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), committee member and chairman of the Homeland Security Committee’s subcommittee of oversight and investigations, asked about Hezbollah’s relationship to criminal organizations in the Western Hemisphere and what it means for U.S. security.

Braun warned that those relationships allow “these groups to operate freely in our neighborhood” and said the U.S. would regret it if the threats were not taken seriously.

“I don’t want to sound too crude, but I think there’s going to be hell to pay in the not too distant future,” he said.

For the most part the tone of the hearing was bipartisan in nature, with Democrats on the committee agreeing that Iran is trying to exert influence in the Western Hemisphere.

Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.) said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent trip to Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador and Nicaragua, is proof that Iran is “up to no good.”

But Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), ranking member of the committee, defended the Obama administration against claims that it is complacent about the threat Iran poses closer to home.

“Our government is fully attentive to this matter,” he said.

An expert witness testifying before the panel, Norman A. Bailey, called for Venezuela to be named a state sponsor of terrorism for “facilitating Iranian illicit activity,” noting among other things Iran’s role in the Venezuelan banking system.

“Responding to this threat requires the United States and allied governments to complicate Iranian access to the Americas, and penalize those involved in facilitating Tehran’s intrusion, said Bailey, who served in the Reagan administration’s National Security Council and later in the Office of the Director of Na tional Intelligence, where he served as “mission manager” for Venezuela and Cuba.

“This includes measures such as the designation of certain Venezuelan banks and affiliates by the U.S. Treasury Department and other agencies for their role in facilitating Iranian illicit activity, and even the outright declaration of Venezuela as a state sponsor of terrorism – a move that would open the door for the U.S. to take more direct and punitive action against the Chavez regime for its collusion with both Iran and Hezbollah,” Bailey said.

Ros-Lehtinen recalled what Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said at a Senate hearing on Tuesday, focused on global threats to the U.S.

“[Clapper] stated this week, ‘Iranian officials – probably including supreme leader Ali Khamenei – have changed their calculus and are now willing to conduct an attack in the United States.’”

Ros-Lehtinen said Iran’s alliances in Latin America provide it with “a platform in the region to carry out attacks against the United States, our interests, and allies.”

Obama Tells Woman Her Husband Shouldn't Be Unemployed

NumbersUSA Email:  On January 30, President Barack Obama held an online town hall meeting where he took questions from Americans via webcam. One participant, Jennifer Wedel of Fort Worth, Texas, asked, "Why does the government continue to issue and extend H-1B visas when there are tons of Americans just like my husband with no job?"

The question caused all sorts of problems for the president. He admitted that there needs to be limits to the H-1B program, but found it "interesting" that Mrs. Wedel's husband, a semiconductor engineer couldn't find a job.

Clearly, President Obama still doesn't understand that the H-1B program does not work. Far too many foreign workers are imported by technology companies and they are employed instead of U.S. workers (like Mrs. Wedels's husband). And instead of promising to do something about the problem, he finds the problem "interesting."

Please send President Obama a fax and ask him to reform the H-1B program and help America's technology workers to get back to work.

You can view the exchange between President Obama and Mrs. Wedel below:
